  1. Everyone wants to be an “armchair hockey coach”. Backstrom was terrific in the playoffs, at times playing like a seasoned vet! Keep up the good work…this young team will only get better.

  2. Hey,
We’re all experts in hindsight right?

Backstrom did struggle early in the season, and was making big adjustments both personally and professionally.

He definitely showed the type of player he was when he gained some confidence, and playing with Ovechkin certainly helped his point totals.

Now, just get him a bit stronger and he’ll be even more effective. He’s a great player.

  3. There were several people that didn’t realize how special this player, Niklas Backstrom, is. I doubt Nik will have a sophomore jinx either. Game on, Caps!

  4. I went to a couple of the rookie camps last year. What were these people watching? Backstrom was two steps ahead of everybody else in the offensive zone. From the first time I saw him play, I knew he’d be great.

  5. Ted,
I should explain. A bunch of us message board folks were at the final scrimmage of last years prospect camp, after which about 10, perhaps 15 of us ended up in Rock Bottom.

It was over a couple of wobbly pops we thought it would be a good idea to put a “backstrom not ready for the nhl” hand in hand with “backstrom ready for the nhl” threads.

Look for even more excitment as we meet again this year for alzner!!!!!

  6. Ah, to look back! I’m glad the naysayers were wrong about Backstrom.

Backstom’s just going to produce no matter what (barring injury). Solid player, Calder trophy contender, destined for great things as a Cap.
