Double-edged Sword

We are pleased to be the host city for the NCAA Frozen Four but the booking of that event did come with a cost. We have a longer trip on the road at the end of the season than we wanted but so do many other teams in the NHL. We won’t complain. We are happy for our fans that championship collegiate hockey is finally coming to the district.

Creating a schedule in a building that hosts more than 250 events per year is an art and a science. There is a lot of work that goes into it; a lot of give and take. Both leagues both have to be coordinated while concert promoters and Georgetown basketball all have to weigh in.

Overall, I think everyone does a great job and does the best we can with the windows of availability. I am happy with the schedule.

  1. Time to block out Pens fans like they did for other people going to their playoff games.

  2. Everyone plays the same number of home and away games. There are two five game “trips” but the first has the Caps in New Jersey on Nov. 15 and the next game is in Anaheim on Nov. 19. I doubt the team will head out to California immediately after the New Jersey game (although heading out a day early isn’t a bad thing… Southern Cal. in November is kinda nice.) That part of the trip is tough, 3 games in 4 nights in California. The good thing is that the Caps get the Kings as the second in a back-to-back (they’re not so good, Anaheim is better), the bad part of that is that two night’s later, they swim with the Sharks…

The other 5 game trip is in March, from the 16th to the 24th, with a tour of the division (hopefully the “victory tour” as they wrap up the division. And as a reward after that, they head up to Toronto for the 5th game of the trip. That’s a road trip you can get 10 points on…

  3. Great Teams win on the road.Time to find out how great we can be.Lets Go Caps.

  4. I think its great for hockey in the DC area. Im hoping I can get tickets to the Frozen Four.

Every team plays 41 home games and 41 road games, so I really dont like when we complain about scheduling. Remember last year when everyone was whining about our 7 game road trip, but then we stepped up and won 6 of those games?

NO EXCUSES, just WIN. I believe!

  5. Win early, and those games wont mean as much.

Key home stretches during the time when things start to divide are fine with me.

The three biggest games are afternoon games..Pitt, Pitt and Detroit. Those will be fun.

The most important thing is weekend games. With a good team, we can sell all those out.

  6. Something tells me that Coach Boudreau may not be as high on the schedule given the ridiculous number of road games towards the end of the season.

  7. If the clubs owner is happy, how can we not be happy????? The Frozen Four is at best a once in a decade type of event; not a bad trade off for growing the game.

Now….how to block out Pens fans on weekend afternoons…

  8. Will there be any talk about the caps getting there own building as the revenues grow with them getting ready to begin there DYNASTY. Thats what I said. DYNASTY. And are you ready for the playoffs again. I know there was some trouble last year but im guessing that your ready this year? We all know that the playoffs are a givin this year its just how far they can go so make sure june is open when Detroit and Hossa come to town for the finals. Hossas trade will make beating them for the cup even sweeter.
