I am reading a really terrific book called “Creating a World Without Poverty” by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus.
The theme of the book is social business and the future of capitalism.
I so believe in these themes of creating businesses that leave more than they take and that can help communities of interest flourish.
I know everyone is busy out there but if you have a chance, pick up this book and read it.
I also have to say I am very proud that SnagFilms follows many of the doctrines laid out in the book - enabling people to get involved; building goodness right into the product itself; and generating monies and people’s time as volunteers for causes.
Everyone can make a difference. Refocusing some of your time and energy and dollars into businesses that are set up to help and to give more than they take is something that everyone can achieve.
Muhammad Yunus is an amazing person both in spirit and midn. Microlending is an opportunity for large groups and individuals to change someone’s life. Kiva (www.Kiva.org) is a great organization that facilitates individuals lending as little as $25 to entrepreneurs.
Muhammad Yunus is one of the true angels among us – a man of exceptional vision, dedication and energy. His focus on microlending is revolutionary and works in the US as well as in developing countries. We incorporated a number of his approaches in the development of AmeriCorps.
