Last week my son and I were walking into our hotel and we both did a double take. There, right in front of us, was Sir Paul McCartney walking alone with a bag in his hand. I stopped and looked at him. He smiled, jumped in his SUV and drove away. I asked the doorman if I had actually seen a Beatle up close and he said, “I can’t comment on that sir but do you believe me or your own eyes?” Wow. He was youthful looking, serene and sans entourage.
Yesterday, on a plane, I sat next to Ted Koppel. He wasn’t very outgoing. We shook hands but he didn’t talk much. He still looks the same. He slept most of the way.
And as I entered the hotel elevator last night, there was Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes – long, flowing beard with tattoos on his feet - with his girlfriend. He was very friendly and was humming a Frank Sinatra song. Did you know the Black Crowes have sold 20 million albums? He is bigger and more buff than you would think.
Thanks for the great info, I will definitely be back!
Actually, the Crowes played at Wolf Trap just last Sunday (the 3rd). They’ll be at the 9:30 Club (unofficially as of now) on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of October, none of which are conflicts with Caps home games! Definitely nice and convenient for me. Heh!
Glad you got to meet CR.
I’ll bet McCartney did look better, since he’s gotten that monkey off of his back.
What city did you see Chris Robinson and his girl in? Kansas or Wisconsin?
Thanks
Let’s see. My wife and I saw Mike Green in the Ballston Common mall on the morning after he scored 2 goals in the Caps come from behind victory in game 1 of the playoffs!!
A year before that, I saw Ovie strolling the streets of downtown DC. He was unrecognized and I didn’t blow his cover, either!!
I know they played the 930 within the last few months, but the next time the Black Crowes are in town you should go see their show. 100% straight ahead, foot tapping, fist shaking rock. Robinson and his mates put on a good show, which is accentuated by the nice size of a club like the 930 (or the Starland Ballroom here in Jersey).
