I just finished reading “It’s Not About the Coffee” by Howard Behar of Starbucks. It is a nice little book, easy to read with a focus on the human element in organizations that serve large constituencies of customers. Howard ran operations for Starbucks. It is broken down into 10 concise chapters about his philosophies on running a large decentralized organization. There is a very moving piece in the book about how Starbucks reacted as a company to the Georgetown murders at a Starbucks on M Street. Very well done and pitch perfect in their response.
