It still amazes me that after three seasons of play, Alex Ovechkin is 3rd all-time for the most goals scored after Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy in that time period. He is ahead of Mario Lemieux and every other great player that has ever played the game in NHL history. As I said, Alex is a historic player. If Alex Semin is healthy this season and develops to his capabilities, I believe it is possible that we could have two 50 goal scorers this season. Last season, to have the leading forward goal scorer in the league (Ovechkin) and the leading D man scorer in Mike Green was also a first in a long, long time.
It would be nice to see Semin hit for 50 goals, but he is going to be hard pressed to do so since he won’t be getting as many minutes as AO does. It doesn’t make sense for them to play together (other than on the power play) so one of them is on the second line, and it’s not going to be Ovechkin. Still, the Caps line-up is loaded from top to bottom and they can roll three scoring lines every night: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov, Semin-Nylander-Fehr, Clark-Fedorov-Laich
A very strong line-up to be sure. How many teams have as a 3rd line a former MVP, a 30 goal scorer and a 20 goal scorer? The Caps could very well score a whole boadload of goals this season.
Hey Teddy,
Last year in my local Times Hearld Record Newspaper, they interviewed a couple of senior high school hockey players asking “who was their favorite NHL player”. Right here in New York, both said ALEX OVECHKIN. I know the kids are all talking about Mike Green as The Great D man and scorer. Don’t forget to keep the “SEA OF RED” going!! Make sure all the local sporting goods stores put the CAPS merchandise up front !!!! LETS GO CAPS!!!
