This is a very good article on Don Fishman–our assistant GM– as part of our rebuild–we decided to be the first team in the NHL to hire a “capologist”– Don is very analytic–he is an attorney–he is smart and he LOVES hockey and the Caps. That is a very powerful combination.
Managing the cap– having little to no dead money-on the books; being able to re-sign who you want/need as a team; and having good relations with your players and agents are key to success in the new NHL; so far–so good for us–kudos to Don.
Yep, so far it’s been excellent. The tough decisions come over the next three years (the goalies, Backstrom, Semin, Schultz, Alzner, etc.). Win the cup in the next two years!
Nice to know there’s someone there to specifically manage the salary issues.
And, by the way, I promised I’d buy a Fedorov jersey if you resigned him. Well, you came through and so did I. I was at Kettler last Wednesday and I got my jersey. I’ll wear it Thursday to the preseason game. I’ll be up in Section 421, row A, seat 4….my home away from my home away from home. (My home away from home is the little box I sit in 40 hours a week to earn money to pay for tickets, and the other necessites of life….)
