  1. Im telling you Uncle Ted you need to keep this kid. I know he hasent put much up in the stat dept. but theres alot more to hockey that Goals and Helpers. Like Matt Cooke he gets in and shakes things up a bit. Pure Grinder.

2 Preseason Games down and they look great, cant wait to see the whole starting team together.

  2. Fun article!

Got a question for you, as I am hell of confused now…

Capitals Insider is reporting that a “Grant McNeill” got a penalty last night for fighting, but I was there, and I could’a sworn the announcer said “Patrick”…

The stats on nhl.com list “McNeill, P.”

    Capitals.nhl.com says Patrick.

    But his jersey (#75) says “G. McNeill”…

So which is it? Wikipedia is no help, since there *is* a Grant McNeill listed as a Canadian hockey player…

Of course, Patrick’s photo shows a redhead, and the guy on the ice had brown hair, but… I’m very confused! Please help!

  3. Quintin Laing is an inspiration to watch. He quickly became one of my favorite Caps this year. To see someone do their work with so much heart and passion, it just makes me want to work harder an do better at everything I do.

There need to not only be more Quintin Laings in the NHL, but more Quintin Laings in the world! He will sorely be missed if he doesn’t crack the roster this year.

  4. Quent is very much a role-player that a successful team can use and if he were in most of the other teams in the NHL, he’d be a lock to be on the opening night roster. It says a lot about the Caps depth that he has to fight for a job here.

He has a lot of intangible plusses, he’s a great face-off guy, he’s got good defensive instincts, tough as nails, works hard. Add to that, he’s the best shot blocker I’ve seen in the NHL since Craig Ludwig was blocking pucks for Dallas in the early 1990s. Ludwig would block about 200 shots a year, and if we assume a .900 save percentage, he saved his team 20 goals. or about 0.24 off the team’s GAA. Laing could certainly help in that regard, although Ludwig, being a defenseman, was blocking shots that were closer in to the net, so he may have been saving his team even more goals per game.

The real question is, if you keep Laing in DC, who has to go (Boyd Gordon? Matt Bradley?) Tough decisions one and all…
