Aren’t You Glad We Planned Ahead?

Aren’t you glad we have built up a big direct communications platform for our franchise?

Aren’t you glad we activated a blogosphere for our team?

Aren’t you glad we know how to use the web and social networks to get the word out?

Yikes. This is truly scary news for us all. Pray for an economic recovery to help newspapers all across North America.

  1. The NHL will now just be like the rest of the things that interest me. NASCAR: coverage non-existent, yet manages to be one of the most watched sports. Video Games: bigger than Hollywood yet gets virtually zero coverage at most major newspapers. Technology: Gets a single columnist to write a few “isn’t that cute” stories at most papers, but no serious coverage. Oh well, it isn’t hard for me to figure out why print media is dying a slow, painful death.

  2. I’m actually in Canada on business right now and read that article in the dead tree edition today. Was surprised they mentioned the WaPo and possible lack of space for stories.

The times are a changin’, indeed.

  3. Don’t let your front-runner status hold you back Ted. The fan base will consume TONS more of Caps content generated by the team. Bring us more and better video, audio and online! I’m sure there are some out of work quality journalists out there who love hockey and would love to have such a dedicated audience to create content for. The season is almost upon us and the team is looking good. Let’s Go Caps!

  4. SWow … very scary news. But, as always, you had your eye on the ball way ahead of time. You & your marketing & communications teams have built an engaged, passionate community with TONS of brand value. Can only imagine how much team’s brand equity has gone up in past 12 months. Sad news for economy & sport … but nothing you didn’t see coming.
