Alex isn’t mentioned in the piece.
We have a chip on our shoulders. That is how I like it. We have to earn our respect.

Milbury played for Boston under Cherry… I guess the “little cat” doesn’t fall far from the tree….
I’ll take that chip anytime to have Ovechkin on the team. Crosby is a talent and has the pretty face, but after seeing the spread in ESPN Magazine I think the Caps are the clear winners here.
Just goes to show you how out of touch the NYTimes really is….
It sucks for Alex not to be canadian. If he was everyone would be sayin Sidney who? From Pierres comment during the playoffs to the general media picking the Pens to go back, its like they dont want our Caps in the front. Its all good thow. That means theyll just have to shove there way to the front stepping on Crosbys face on the way.
So, when AO saves the leagues collective fourth point of contact with an amazing season when their poster boy went down, they return the favor by snubbing him. I so hope AO is PI**ED and takes it out on the rest of the league.
type-o, meant SCHL… but I am sure you all figured that out.
Get this….

Someone inside put this on Alex’s locker if he needs any further motivation this year…
While Don Cherry has been an icon in hockey, this article rubbed me the wrong way.
Agree with (OldChelsea) the CSHL is churning it’s wheels again and it’s sickening to see all the other talent brushed aside.
Well, it’s hard to sell someone to the masses that does not have English as his first language. It will take a few years, but AO will become the savior the NHL so desperately wants and needs.
“We have to earn our respect”? As a team, yes.
BUT, if winning those 4 individual awards and the Calder doesn’t get Alex respect from the NHL, then what does he have to do? I think it’s disrespectful not to include him. He is the reigning MVP.
Crosby will never earn a Calder in his career, and most likely won’t ever win the Richard Trophy, so what Alex has done is truly “unbelievable.”
Just as I expected…now that the off-season is drawing to a close and everyone’s forgotten about Ovechkin’s annus mirabilis, the Supertwit hype machine is revving up again…business as usual.
it just saddens me that the league’s primary strategy to sell the game is to put all their hopes on one player.
I don’t think that any one player should be the focal point.
I know this article mentions other players, but let’s be honest as to who it is really about.
I won’t deny that Crosby is one heck of a player, and I would even concede him being the “Jordan of the NHL”. What I am baffled about is Ovechkin not being named as one of the top young stars in the league. From day 1 he has lit it up, from “The Goal” to his jumping up and down after a goal, to his 4 trophies last season in which he led the league in goals and points and winning the MVP. Lets not forget that Crosby has had a plethora of talent around him from the start, whereas Ovechkin had to wait a season before really getting help.
you’ve got to be f’ing kidding me. I almost just lost my lunch reading that.
yeah I like us not getting over-hyped like “Mr. Crosby” but that was just sickening, as is that ad.
Crosby isn’t the NHL’s Jordan, he’s Larry Bird. He’s not flashy and dramatic.
AO is the Jordan of the NHL. No doubt about it.
