The really funny part, is that even if Ovechkin is only half as good as he was last year…. he’ll STILL be f’ing fantastic!!
I usually choose not to make “below the belt” comments, but this time that’s all I’ve got. Aside from his “Joker”-like wardrobe and harsh commentary, Don’s old-school understanding of the NHL isn’t carrying the weight he would like. It isn’t a “Canadian” only sport anymore Don. Of course – if it were, then all the Canadian Commentators would all stay in Canada. (oh, sorry – just joking)
As for Don’s dissapproval of the Canuck’s naming Luongo their Captain – well – I couldn’t disagree more.
I can hear Alex now …” who is Don Cherry? “….Don Cherry is so 1984
As a DC resident, but a big Pens fan, I think Cherry is far off the mark here. As the Caps get better with multiple lines for other teams to defend, Ovechkin’s numbers will improve too.
Hey at least Don is honest! Most of the commentators would never say the same even though they think it. Look at the ads for the NHL this year, look at the coverage Crosby gets. Hockey coverage is so Canadacentric it is not funny. Crosby has become the Great White North Hope!
Check out Kukla’s Korner today where Sean Avery disses on Don Cherry…bet Avery has a field day with Don’s wardrobe!
Hee hee… I wonder if Alex has another “little cat” joke for ol’ Grapes there. Cherry is a buffoon who’s time has come and gone. CBC keeps him on the show because he’s controversial, but at the same time, he actually knows something about the game.
Milbury, on the other hand doesn’t have a clue. Trading Luongo *and* Jokinen (two all-stars) for Oleg Kvasha and Mark Parrish (not bad players, but c’mon…).
And to think, back in the late 1970s Milbury played for Cherry in Boston…
What a bitter old man.
