Ted's Take

A Respectful Request and a Heads Up

It is a very busy time of year and made doubly so by the economy for several of my start-up ventures. Our new season is about to start and we are focused on the team and our present and future which looks pretty good right now.I receive hundreds and hundreds of emails at my WashingtonCaps@aol.com address and I try to read and respond to all of them. I took a look at my mail box for the last 60 days and was surprised at how many emails I received many from the same small set of fans rehashing things and looking in the rear view mirror or frankly writing about things that aren’t as important to us or many of our fans. Hence, starting today, I will no longer respond to any emails that demand an answer on the following:

Kono trade;

Bondra trade;

Jagr trade;

Gonchar trade;

Witt trade;

Grier trade;

Halpern non-resigning;

Olie to Tampa;

Capitals Spirit Squad;

Mike Gartner number retirement ceremony;

And if you get banned from the message boards.

I am not trying to be disrespectful. I am just trying to manage my time better and focus on our present and future. To get into email debates about trades made four years ago seems counterproductive to me or to get into flame wars with fans over individual players that have retired or left our team seems inappropriate to me. We need to be focused on our team and our current players. So I apologize in advance if I don’t respond to your email or request to discuss something about these subjects…just about anything else is fair game to write about. I have exhausted all my words on the subject above and have moved on. Onward and thanks for understanding. Go Caps!

    Right on Ted. Right on.

  2. Steve in Jersey says:

    Folks still want to talk about all that stuff? Sheesh, Finish them off in style: trade Ovechkin and the Spriit Squad for Kono, Bondra, Jagr, Witt, Gonchar, Grier (Grier?), Halpern and Kolzig, and announce the deal on Mike Gartner night. See how they like Rocking the Red then. Keep working the plan Ted - it’s going to be a great season (without Kono, Bondra, Jagr et. al). Let’s Go Caps.

  3. Good on ya…I’d say this is a good lesson in resource management & online community engagement.

    Alternatively, you could start publishing these emails with reply address. That would certainly be the end of that nonsense. ;-)

  5. Seth says:

    Looking FORWARD to the season and rocking the red Saturday night!!

    Will the Caps be doing anything before the game on the street, like years past?

  6. hockey amor says:

    Ted,

    You forgot the Why did we trade Ken Houston thread :-)

    Really guys, give our owner a break!

  7. BeltwayBandits says:

    GO Ted!

    Telling it like it is.

    Roll Caps!

  8. TJ says:

    Wow seems like there are allot of losers out there who don’t have a clue. Good for you Ted, you really shouldn’t be wasting your time with them. You got way bigger fish to fry.

    For what it’s worth, I think you’re more than justified.

    /2 cents

  10. Mike L. says:

    Don’t forget the ketchup packets/ketchup pump bottle debate!!! :D

    Enough has been said about all of the things above by everyone. Kono and Bondra are retired; Jagr is playing in Russia; Witter, Olie and Grier play for other teams; Gonchar and Halpern are on the injured list for the next few months.

  11. Mike says:

    Good call. Not as good as the call to pick Ovechkin with the first pick, but good call nonetheless.

  12. Stretch says:

    People are still talking about those trades? That’s pathetic. Put ‘em on spam blocker.
