Mike said some incredibly stupid things on the Hockey Night In Canada broadcast this weekend again mentioning the Washington Capitals. He said that Washington, Nashville and the Florida teams should all be contracted. If I remember correctly, he also called Alex Ovechkin a dog and then a month later Alex won the MVP award.
And the season is just getting started. Good way to pump up that NHL brand, Mike.
I am sure Mike is just trying in his fumbling and bumbling way to be provocative.
My bet: If I offered Mike Milbury a job with the Washington Capitals, he would take the first flight down; interview; and if offered a position, would take it with glee. If Nashville called – or Tampa or Florida - he would be on the first flight down to discuss employment. Of course, that will never happen. Maybe he knows that he has become a joke amongst NHL insiders and will most likely never work in the front office of a team again. And if I have my way, he will never have lunch in this town again either.
Watching the finals now and am 100% sure this guy is the biggest a-hole analyst in any sport. Met his daughter at a bar and she butted in on our conversation and said “Chara’s a P***Y. I was thinking to myself, go away and take your dad with you.
Mr. Leonsis, will you find it awkward if I give you a hug next time I see you? You are one of the best owners in the league. I love how you want to connect with your fans and making fun of Milbury is top notch in my book! =D
He and Pierre “50% Orange” McGuire can have each other. .
@Steve:
Alex called Milbury a little cat… which is ok to say on television. There is a slang term for a “little cat” that is also a slang term for someone who is a cowardly moron. It begins with “p” and ends in “y” and while Alex didn’t say it, her certainly implied it.
Well, he was definitely the most entertaining GM. There’s nothing quite like watching a team being fed its own heart.
LOL ..Bullseye TL , that intermission in studio bit with Alex Ovechkin during last seasons playoffs was something else ….after hearing the replay of Milbury calling Alex a ” dog ” ..Alex classy and funny refute of M. Milbury of being a little cat and Alex was a “Big dog” that would eat him ..then Mike sensing the disjointed atmosphere he created tried to be buddy buddy with Alex by telling him to get a haircut…its sad, Milbury was a tenacious player in his time
Mad Mike is a certifiable clown. Unfortunately, he’s less a benign Bozo and more a malignant Pennywise: some people actually take him seriously.
Give some men a microphone, put them in front of a camera, and all of a sudden, they’ll have delusions of relevance.
Quick–somebody find this guy a midget team to mismanage, before he does any more damage to the NHL.
Milbury only says that because Ovie takes the limelight away from his boy-toy Crosby.
Wasn’t it Saturday that Milbury seemed to be relishing in Sid’s freshly shorn appearance and openly criticizing Ovechkin’s long hair? Funny Lemeiux and Jagr both had super-mullets in their prime?
How is it that people like this can actually keep a job?
There is definitely something wrong with the man. I think he may need a medication adjustment. And I don’t say this sarcastically or mean spiritedly but as a matter of observation. Something doesn’t make sense!
Lets Go Caps!!!!!!!!!!
I love the no lunch part. Ted you are awesome!
Mike Milbury is such a joke. NBC should put him on the street. I’m sure Mike would like to reply to this, Ted, but his lips are attached to Sidney Crosby’s rear-end at the moment, so he can’t get back to you.
Greatest. Owner. Ever.
Ted…You TOTALLY ROCK!
Ted, you can always ask him how that Luongo and Jokinen for Kvasha and Parrish trade worked out…
Ah, why bother? What you should do is when NBC or CBC want press credentials, deliberately leave Milbury off the list as the credentials are reserved only for professional journalists (like Japer for example…)
ROFL, Awesome Ted. Yet another reason we love you, tell it how it is.
Have to be honest with you Ted. That was Awesome! haha Has Mike Milbury forgotten that he was one of the worst coaches in the history of the NHL? The guy has no clue about Hockey, and IS NOT welcome in our Nations Capital…. that would be in my humble opinion
The same Mad Mike that completely ruined the New York Islanders during his time as GM. Anything that comes out of his mouth should never be taken seriously.
Good for you Ted. This guy needs to be thrown around by Ovie. Or you
Ted is the most awesome team owner on the face of the earth. Screw the politicaly correct way of saying things. way to stand up for your team.
yes … he is a fool. But if you’re hiring for positions with the Capitals … I must have missed it as I check the site every day.
Ted 2 – Mad Mike 0.
Nice job, Ted. I can’t believe a former hockey player would make such moronic comments.
get em Ted!
I’m surprised he even has a job as an analyst…proof of his ineffectiveness and lack of any sort of hockey foresight are well-documented.
you go Ted!
Milbury – must be running for office or something
…and his Islanders (no playoff series wins since 1993) were such a roaring success…right? He is SO eminently qualified to criticise other NHL clubs!
milbury is a _____________(fill in the blank), i applaud you trying to see he never has lunch in DC again. He took the islanders and set them back 10yrs.
Sweet, Ted!!
“Know it alls” have been bagging on DC for years and years. I just don’t understand the hate. In fact, Caps fans should be respected for sticking with a team with such loyalty and devotion.
We are finally starting to be rewarded for sticking with it thru years of mediocrity (or worse) and never really having a world-caliber star player until now.
I just don’t get it.
I hope Milbury becomes a joke amongst sports broadcasting insiders too. Bring back Billy Clement!

well said…that guy is a joke
Right on, Ted!!! Milbury is a hack and a joke. I still can’t figure out why any self-respecting network would employ the guy as a commentator.
If you offered that idiot a GM job I’d probably have to quit being a fan since his first trade would probably be Ovechkin, Semin, Green and Backstrom for a 3rd and a 7th. Seriously, half of the trades he made while the Isles GM would have been rejected in video games. Want proof: here are his “great” deals.

Mike is a fool, and to say an organization like the Caps, that is on such an upswing should be contracted, shows just how out of touch with reality he truly is. He should keep his mouth shut and take good old Abe Lincolns advice.
Ted,
Mike will have to come to town for lunch when the Capitals are in the Stanley Cup finals and he is covering it for one of the networks!
Mike Milbury is little more than a common internet troll once you look past the TV contract. Good on you for calling him out on it.
It is too bad that we cannot get one of our rivals to offer him a job. The quality of hockey coverage on TV would be greatly improved by his absence, and our rival would be at a serious competitive disadvantage by his presence.
Considering how he left the Islanders in a smoldering ruin I’m surprised that he’s employed in the world of hockey at all.
I can understand why some people might think about contracting markets like South Florida, Nashville, Atlanta, and Phoenix, but why are Tampa and DC constantly brought up? Washington DC is one of the richest parts of the country, 3rd in GDP I believe behind only NY and LA. Having a financially successful team here in the district would be more beneficial to the league than in places like Philadelphia, Detroit or Montreal. Despite the fact Tampa’s average attendance over the last 3 seasons has been, from 05-06 to 07-08: 20,509, 19,876, and 18,692, people like Milbury want to 86 the Lightning.
We need to build a giant trebuchet which we can use to hurl people like Milbury into the sun.
