For Those of You Who Haven’t Seen It Yet…

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Here is The Hockey News cover story on the Washington Capitals. We have come a long way, huh?

We have never garnered this level of respect from the trade news. The previous teams never caught the imagination of the media like this one. We have officially crossed a chasm and reached the other side in terms of media attention. Two major cover stories this month alone in ESPN the Magazine and now The Hockey News.

Now we have to execute and try to live up to the hype which will be a very tall order indeed. But for a select few of you Caps fans that whined about a lack of respect; or how we didn’t know how to build a team; or handle PR; or know how to market…how do you like those apples? :-)

Alex Semin

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

As I noted four years ago, Alex Semin will become a great player in the NHL. He is one of the most talented skill players I have ever seen. Here is a nice article that is starting to give him recognition as having multiple weapons as a team is a luxury and one that we had planned to develop as part of our strategy of recasting our team. Credit goes to our scouts on this one as Alex was picked middle of the pack in the draft. I remember folks on our message boards and in email vilifying the pick. Do you remember that?

Also, having depth is important as a team so Eric Fehr will now go into our lineup as Kozlov is out with an injury. It is now time for Eric to contribute. He has waited for his turn to play. He is healthy now and no better time than the present to help our cause as we play in Pittsburgh on Thursday night.
