Alex Semin

As I noted four years ago, Alex Semin will become a great player in the NHL. He is one of the most talented skill players I have ever seen. Here is a nice article that is starting to give him recognition as having multiple weapons as a team is a luxury and one that we had planned to develop as part of our strategy of recasting our team. Credit goes to our scouts on this one as Alex was picked middle of the pack in the draft. I remember folks on our message boards and in email vilifying the pick. Do you remember that?

Also, having depth is important as a team so Eric Fehr will now go into our lineup as Kozlov is out with an injury. It is now time for Eric to contribute. He has waited for his turn to play. He is healthy now and no better time than the present to help our cause as we play in Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

  1. That game against Vancouver was inspiring, and inspired. If you told me that AO was going to not be on the scoresheet, and that our goalie was going to make only 9 saves in the Vancouver game, I would have said the Caps would have lost. But there it was, outshooting the Canucks (a pretty good team) 35-10 and AO was held pointless…

Oh, and Bruce needs to get Nylander into the shootouts from now on. On the penalty shot, he made 15 moves on the puck from the blue line to the goal and pretty much faked Luongo out of his jockstrap. If he can do that to an elite goalie like Luongo, imagine what he’d do to most goalies!

  2. Semin has been one of the most frustrating players to watch over the last two seasons. He is one of the most skilled players in the league, with his release and stick handling, but for whatever reason hasn’t played to his potential. I think this is the season that we see Semin do his part for the team. 50 goals isn’t out of the question if he stays focused.
