Craig and Joe work hard and suffer the ups and downs with our fans and with our players. I have much respect and admiration for the job they do for Comcast SportsNet and for our fans. This is a good article on their hard work and their teamwork. And in a game like last night, where we had a nine minute power play and did not score - it is good to know there are folks describing the game’s action that care and can offer up vivid descriptions of our ineptitude on the power play. I agree that “we are too cute and too fancy.”

Joe B. and Locker are the perfect tag team.
As for the PP:
1) Put Clark or Laich in front of the net
2) Fire away
3) Stop the backdoor tap-in dipseedoo crap. It’s not working.
That power play had me screaming at the TV… why didn’t they shoot it more from the outside, to get the Flames forwards to come out from the little box they were in. You have to have a threat from outside if you want passing lanes in the middle during a power play.
That and there was no movement at all..none. No one was moving to the front during the PP…
They also had to know that they would get a lot of penalties against them once they gave the Caps a 9 minute power play.
Anyway, Theodore looked very good and the two goals that got by him were great shots (albeit giving up the puck directly to Jarome Iginla on power play is a horrific mistake, that usually ends up on the scoreboard…damn he’s good). Kipper was great for Calgary in the net as well.
But still, a 9 minute power play…you have to get at least one in the net on that….
Craig and Joe make watching Caps hockey on TV enjoyable.
1) They are biased for the Caps. I love it.
2) They are knowledgeable
3) They (especially Craig) don’t take themselves too seriously. They have fun, and we have listening to them. I hate stuffed shirt announcers.
4) Although Caps fans, they will “tell it like it is”. This is why they are credible, not just announcers with “fan blinders”.
The worst part about when the games are on Versus, is that we lose Craig and Joe (well, usually at LEAST Craig).
I have NHL Center Ice, so I’ve probably heard every play-by-play/color duo in the league, and I have to say Joe & Craig are at the very least top 3.
As for that travesty of a power play, WOW…
Got to agree here…Being that I live outside of CSN’s area now, I watch the Caps on Center Ice, and I’m always that much more happier when it’s a CSN feed on…I’ve been watching Joe and Craig since I’ve gotten out of high school and our “Dynamic Duo” as I like to call them are indeed one of the game’s best announce teams out there when I compare them to the other NHL teams play-by-play guys. With all due respect, I think Al Koken is a better sideline guy than a PXP guy, and I wish we could get Steve Kolbe to do CSN games where Joe has to be away. Speaking of Al, Who can’t forget the game where Aldo got bonked in the coconut with a stray puck…Memories
Joe b and Craig are some of the nicest guys in the world. I talked to them during practice one morning and they were VERY cool and down to earth. They do such an awesome job together and they also do a fantastic job of representing the Washington Capitals organization which is top notch! Thanks ted and thanks Joe B and Craig!
I’ve had Center Ice for 5 years, so I’ve heard every broadcast team multiple times. I can say that Joe and Craig are very good and have great chemistry, but the thing that really sets them apart from most local broadcast teams is their honesty. If the Caps do something that deserves criticism, Joe and Craig do not pull any punches. Most local broadcast teams are absolute homers, making excuses for the home teams bad play, or giving the home team credit for everything that happens during the game. They are very professional. The other great thing about Joe B, is that he has enthusiasm for great plays, whether it’s the Caps or the opposition. If Malkin makes a great play and scores against the Caps, Joe B calls the action enthusiastically. Most Local broadcast teams make the simplest home team goal sound like Ovie’s “The Goal”, and any good play by the visiting team is made to sound very Ho-Hum. That really bothers me about most broadcast teams, and I really like and respect that Joe and Craig show the true enthusiasm of real hockey fans and broadcasters regardless of who or which team is making the great play.
