Bad PR

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Show up. Play when asked. Say, “Thank you. I am fortunate to be a professional athlete playing in the NBA.” Regardless of how bad the atmosphere is, support your team and your teammates and play the game. Enjoy life and your career. Time is short so get out there and play and earn that paycheck. The world is ending. Real people - good people - are getting laid off from work and having their homes foreclosed. No one will empathize with a professional athlete making $21 million per year and one who doesn’t want to work to earn it.

Wow. Talk about bad timing and bad optics and bad PR. Just play the game. Smile and realize how fortunate you are to be a professional athlete. No one will sympathize about hurt feelings. For $190k per game, get on the floor and play and enjoy. How bad can it be?

Check out this question in The Hockey News. I believe “out of touch” is a good metaphor.

Who Saw a Shutout Coming Last Night?

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

With all of our injuries, did anyone see us winning 3-0 over a very talented and very good Montreal team?

We are a very good team at home. In fact, we haven’t lost yet in regulation and we play with a lot of heart and a lot of pride. This was a very satisfying win. I am proud of the team; the coaching staff; and of all the players who bonded in adversity and got us the two points. Well done.

For You Aspiring Filmmakers

Check out this movie on SnagFilms.com. It is easier to grab a widget and help a filmmaker. Writing a screenplay in hopes of your film getting produced is tough indeed. Check out this film.

Too Ironic: Email Rants to Me This Thanksgiving Day

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Yep, it was on Thanksgiving Day yesterday and yet three fans decided to send me long rambling rants with complaints of:

  • The team’s treatment of Jakub Klepis;
  • The team’s treatment of Jamie Heward;
  • The team’s treatment of Olie Kolzig (they know because they spoke with Mrs. Kolzig too);
  • Ken Klee and why we didn’t pick him up on waivers;
  • The Red Rockers and their wicked ways;
  • The lack of towel giveaways;
  • And the radio reception post game.

Because of these transgressions against mankind these three fans will never darken our door again; will neither attend a Caps game nor buy a ticket again; and wish us nothing but bad tidings. And a Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. :-)

Thank You Abe

I agree. Kudos to Mr. Pollin. Remember, he brought the team to DC and started the city’s love affair with hockey a long, long time ago.

I Agree With This Selection!

Great story - great pick. Thank you so much. Go Caps!

Happy Thanksgiving Caps Fans

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

We needed the two points last night. We played well while being short handed by eight players and the Hershey kids added great energy and enthusiasm to the roster.I am grateful for the sold out building; for the loud crowd; and for the team remaining unbeaten at home.

We remain in first place in the division; 5th in the East; and are the highest goal scoring team in the East. And in case anyone hadn’t noticed, Alex Ovechkin is climbing the point leading board and is now 3rd in the NHL with 29 points and is 6th in goals scored.

I am very proud of the team being so well positioned at Thanksgiving - compared to last year - and while having played so many games on the road (13 vs. 8 at home) and being so shorthanded. Can you name one NHL team that has lost more productivity out of the lineup than us to date?

Enjoy your Turkey and trimmings today. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Washington Capitals and Washington Mystics.
