Ted's Take

Sunday Practice

I went to the practice on Sunday. It wasn’t fun and it was motivated by the team NOT working hard or looking prepared on Saturday night.

It is very frustrating to the staff to see us be scored upon eight times in the first minute or last minute of a period.

It is equally frustrating to see the team NOT come out and work hard. That to me is the biggest sin. I have been very consistent in that demand. Effort and focus are key deliverables by our players. We can’t win every game but we can expend more energy and be passionate and focused and play hard. That is all within our control.

I thought Coach did the right thing today and I was happy to see the players take it; work hard; skate hard and understand what their deliverable is to our fan base. Everything will take care of itself.

I agree Ted all I want as a fan is too see hard work playing Bruce’s system for 60 minutes. If we lose playing with heart I can live with that, I should say I want every player to play with heart and I can live with that no more counting on only one guy, it’s not fair. I am 100% confident that this team oodles talent and heart, I saw it first hand last year so to see them essentially not stick with the game plan is so frustrating and simply mind blowing. I hope they learned their lesson and come out to play on Tuesday night, because they are too good to be selling themselves and us fans short! I also want to thank Bruce for holding them responsible.

    LET’S GO CAPS!

You were right at the beginning of the season when you pointed out that the last time expectations were this high going in, it did not end as everyone wanted.
I think this team is amazing, but it really REALLY needs to stop believing its own press and just play the game they’re accustomed to.

And is Ovechkin’s grandfather still alive? The blog ‘Alex Ovejkin’ says he died. I sure hope not.

    Ted,

The natives are restless - we don’t like to see the team lose any game but we hate to see them lose because they simply didn’t put forth the effort required to win. Like other fans I was happy that the team was kept intact but worried that being so close to the salary cap prevents ownership from making some necessary moves. I honestly think that your presence at the practice will make a difference - now the players know that you are concerned and involved. Thank you for everything - you’re what ownership should be.

Every team has a game like Saturday’s at some point or another. It’s how we respond to that game that really matters. I expect a spirited performance on Tuesday.

We’ll see how the response is tonight. While too many folks are watching election returns, I’ll be watching to see (hopefully) the Caps continue their recent domination of Ottawa!

Saturday’s game was tough to watch, so let’s put it behind us and move on. Miller shut out NJD last night. Devil’s played hard but to no avail. Miller is just SUPER good. Keep up the good work Ted and Bruce, keep those boys in line and lets go for the BIG Ws. Thanks for the fun. LETS GO CAPS!!!

Every team has bad nights. Think about how Boston felt that fated night here in DC when they lost to the crowds chants of “We Want WINGS!” Before the entire team has groin pulls or ends up in the box for losing control…lets have some perspective. It’s not about losing face…they aren’t going to take your awards away…put on your big boy pants and move on…to win!
