Not Much More to Say

Thom Loverro wrote a good story here about tonight’s game.

My comments are from the heart. I know what Olie Kolzig meant to our franchise and to our fans.

But we have a game to play tonight and we need the two points.

For the first time ever, we will show a video recognizing a player on another team. After Olie retires, we can all talk about his legacy. But for now, I hope we win the game against division rival Tampa.

In my mind, Olie will always be a Washington Capital but he signed with Tampa as a free agent and he will be in goal tonight against us so we have to put all of the memories aside and focus on a win. That is what the game is about tonight, two points.

  1. I just discovered that I don’t get Versus in my Fios package, as I just moved into my new house, so I can’t watch any of it. And I had tickets too, but some things came up and I had to cancel. Any chance the tribute video will be posted on the site? Thanks!

Short of anyone getting seriously injured, the Caps will always play to win. We can get sentimental after the game. We want the points! TS GO CAPS!!

  3. I have a feeling the Caps will be able to win the game if they stay focused like they did vs. the Rangers on Saturday. The Rangers are much better defensively than Tampa and the Caps forwards should be able to forecheck very effctively. Meszaros, their best D-man, is more an offensive defenseman as opposed to a tight checking defenseman. They traded their top defensive d-man to Philly to get Eminger and Downie. Olie may play well, but still lose due to the Caps overwhelming the Bolts defense….

  4. ted—interesting if I remember correctly you initially were not in favor of any tribute to olie while he was still active and playing for another team.

However, you have apparently thought about olie’s return and have now made the only, and correct, decision possible in this matter, which (btw I suggested months ago) is to have a short video tribute to olie the goalie. both olie and the fans deserve it. like any good exec congrats to you for being flexible enough to change your mind.

my only personal concern is that watching the game on versus means that i/we will probably not be able to see the video tribute as it happens live as they may cut to commercials.

one other note, the ovation that olie receives will of course be incredible. and but for the mandatory resumption of play after the video ends, the ovation would otherwise go on until xmas.

once again—classy move by the caps organization.it will a special moment for olie and all cap fans.

  5. it is just a game..people are more important…you deserve the best treatment possible when you give about half your life to one team…no one has forgotten the year of godzilla back in 98….WELCOME HOME OLIE!!!! Thanks for all you did for the Caps!!

  6. if he’d done like he kept saying,he could have retired as a CAP,but much like some other older players,he won’t admit that his best days are behind him,and step aside gracefully.i look forward to the guys to make that point tonight and will have no problem cheering against Olie tonight from sec.109,he left here of his own free will.
