When one considers the hundreds of millions of people who use the web daily, 5,000 isn't exactly a gigantic number. Clearly the technology exists to enable one to have 50,000 friends or 500,000 friends. It's not like scientists haven't discovered how to do it. So, really: why so few? I'm not a Facebook user (I just don't want one more thing to check); but 5,000 seems decidedly small -- especially if their business model purports to link worlds of people, 5,000 people isn't that big a planet.
