A Nice Success Story

Our scouts always liked Tomas’s talents; our coach loved his skills and productivity; our GM respected his work ethic and upside; but some of our fans were very impatient and highly opinionated to the negative. You should see some of my emails and go check out our message boards sometimes. :-)
Good thing we have professionals working for us. If you remember, Tomas was the throw in prospect to us in the Robert Lang deal with Detroit. We also received a #1 that turned into Mike Green. He is now emerging as a Top 6 forward. He is young and he can play.

“A pick and a prospect” was our mantra for our deals during our rebuild, trading older vets for our future.

I am so happy that this deal turned out well for us. Tomas is very upbeat in the locker room and a great teammate. Everyone wants him to succeed. I am very proud of him.

Thank You Caps fans

I usually don’t write about these subjects but just thought this matter would be of interest. We are humbled as the Caps are now ranked as a Top 10 team in the NHL in paid admissions with only Minnesota, Buffalo, Detroit and Philadelphia ahead of us for US -based teams. We are up in paid admissions more than 27 percent year over year. Only Chicago is growing faster than us.

Amazing but true: We passed Pittsburgh and the NY Rangers and teams like the Boston Bruins; Chicago Blackhawks; Colorado Avalanche; Dallas Stars; and Edmonton Oilers which are called – by the experts – true hockey markets.

I don’t want to comment or gloat too much on our growth as it is still early in the year. These results were as of November 15th and I can’t say thank you enough to our fans. I have always believed in our market and I have always believed that DC could be known as a hockey town too alongside these other great destinations and markets. Thank you. Go Caps!

Bad Luck on Injuries

This is getting tough to take. Semin, Fedorov, Green, Schultz, Gordon, Erskine and we should never forget that Brian Pothier is still on the team and injured as well.

We will regroup after a day off. Playing four games on the road in six nights with an injury depleted team is tough but there is no crying and whining allowed in hockey. The team has to suck it up. We need to bring up some reserves and get back at it come Wednesday night.

2666

Yep. I bought the book 2666, the new masterpiece by Roberto Bolano. It is 900 pages long and I intend to finish it by year end. His last book The Savage Detectives was mind-blowing.

He is a great writer and sadly he just passed away. This book, from what I have heard from friends and read from critics, is a “cosmic genre redefining piece of work”. Check it out if you are brave and have the fortitude to get intellectually challenged.
