Coney Island, Baby

Oh gosh, what a wonderful film. Once in college a little preppy girl asked me, “Where do you summer, Nantucket or the Cape?” I proudly answered, “Coney Island, baby. Coney Island.”

This is such a lovely and well made three minute film. It made me think about my childhood and my dad. I learned to drive in Coney Island. I jumped in the ocean there with the Polar Bear Club with my dad once, too.

Facebook Redux: Post Mortem

We all spoke too soon. Facebook won’t allow me to add any more friends. I am at the limit.

They didn’t turn off my account – which is good - but if you try to friend me, you will get an error message that says I have too many friends.

Thus the Facebook legend is true and it is NOT an urban myth as 5,000 friends is the limit. We reached it. Sorry about that. And now we know!

Debunking the Urban Myth of Facebook

I had been told by folks at Facebook that my account would blow up if I reached 5,000 friends. Many people on Facebook warned me about how my account would be suspended as well once I hit that magic number.

Well, I hit 5,000 friends and THE WORLD DIDN’T END. I am still here and I am still connected. Thank you Facebook and lesson learned. Don’t be afraid of the unknown. Take a risk and see what happens! :-)

Refs

The on ice officials have a tough and thankless job. They get critiqued and fans boo and they take blame from home fans over every call against their team. I admit I have booed a few times myself.

Last night there was a pivotal moment in our game when a goal was scored against us because the puck was redirected after it hit an on ice official’s boot. I was deflated but then the on ice officials met and conferred and the goal was NOT allowed.

It is against the rules for a goal to be counted if it hits an official’s boot and goes in the net. I didn’t know that rule and I bet most people didn’t know it either.

The officials did the right thing and made a gutsy call and this time it was to our benefit. I have empathy for how hard an official’s job is with making fast moving subjective calls all of the time. This non goal helped propel us to a win last night and I am grateful that the refs were smarter than me in knowing all of the rules of the game.
