Odd Game But Good For Us to Get Humble

I though we were the dominate team for the first 40 minutes of the game and we were down 3-0. It was an odd game. We set a record for shots in the first period for a road game and came up empty and were down 1-0.

That loss is humbling. It’s time to just put it away; clear our heads; try to get healthy over the next two days; and get back to work. Not much more to do. Don’t look back and focus on next week.

We shouldn’t be reading our press clippings. That is for sure.

    Ted -
Sometimes losses like that are what take a team to another level… I don’t think it will be repeated in the near future. Nitty got in their heads and they will learn how to fight through hitting a hot goalie next time or the time after. What I know from watching this group - they are fun - they are what the NHL needs more of. They are not just talented (amazing passing going on!) but they are hard working - they aren’t just resting and expecting to win on talent. I can see in the near future where the Caps will be viewed among the elite teams.. it is hard to continue to build as it all seems so close.. centerpiece player - strong supporting cast- great coach.. but there is still room for improvement as I’m sure you experience in your other successes… Good is not good enough :-)That loss truly hurt yesterday.. but I believe out of something bad something good always happens! GO CAPS!!

Mr. Leonis I would like to thank you for helping turn the Caps around. I remember going to games when i was 18 just to watch them play and enjoy the game, realizing the games didn’t mean a whole lot. Now two years later we make it to the playoffs and are currently in first place in our division. Thank you and GM GM for making our club a top contender for the cup, it feels good to cheer because i love the game, but also because we are progressively moving forward.

p.s. I hope you hate Pittsburgh as much as all of us fans do, i cannot stand that city or its teams, take care.

Goalie was in the zone…better a one regular season game then in a 7 game series…*** Varlamov reminds of the 1986 Rookie Patrick Roy…nice!

Reminded of older caps teams that would go out and dominate the 1st period but not score and end up losing.

Couldn’t agree more. Sometimes a 7-1 loss is easier to get over than a 2-1 loss in OT. Nitty was hot, and lucky.

Every year there are going to be games that you can’t explain one way or the other. This one was bad, sure, but despite it being a 7-1 loss, there are no extra losses handed out.

So far in December, the team is 7-3-0, meaning they’re playing .700 hockey… not bad at all. That would be 115 points over the course of the season.

The team needs to get it out of their heads, go to New York, check out the tree at Rockefeller Center, and then kick the Rangers around the rink Tuesday. :)

Can’t help but wonder if the kid was sent back to the minors a little early. Not that it would have changed the outcome of the game but with Johnson and Theodore both nursing Hip injuries it seems that it would have made since to keep him up for another game or 2 to give them more time to heal…..

losing to the flyers like that hurts

    @Brian et al:

There are going to be nights in each season when the goalie on one team steals a game for their team that they’re getting outplayed in. It happens every year.

Prior to this, the last time a Flyer goalie stole a game was Game 7 in the playoffs…. next time, I suspect the Caps won’t run into a goaltender that hot in Philly.

What’s good is that the Flyers realized they could have been down 3 or 4 goals after one if not for Nitty…he was outstanding.

You take the loss, take your lumps, and go get the next one…
