Local Sports and Marketing Dollars
I believe in this credo and in the conclusions stated in this article. I have always believed the Washington Capitals are a big interactive community and that the team isn’t owned by us but by our fan base.
The fans are doing a great job right now and sponsor dollars will follow the audience and their love and passions. Jump on board the love train local sponsors.
Nice Win
Not much more to say, it was a nice win - two more points – and a great ceremony for Mike Gartner. There are a few more players into the lineup from injury and a new player out with an injury.
We are now in sole possession of second place in the East with 49 points which is also 4th best in the NHL. We are 10 points up on Carolina.
Things are going well so I worry!
Enjoy the play of this team and look forward to a full complement of players in the New Year. I will worry for all of you.
Be Well George
You are welcome at our games as my guest anytime. Thanks for caring so much about DC sports and for being a friend.
You were the best of the best of local sports editing and now it is time to write the next chapter in your book. I am flattered to have been mentioned in your column and to have been “yelled at” by you from time to time. Onward.
Congratulations to Mike Gartner
We are honored to celebrate Mike’s career tonight.
To be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame is a great honor and to have the team you were drafted by and flourished with retire your jersey is also a fitting capstone to a great career in the NHL. The fans remember your great play and achievements and your contributions to our franchise. Congratulations to you and your family. You will always be a Washington Capital in our eyes.
Campus Moviefest
SnagFilms is so proud to work with Campus MovieFest. Young adults that are growing up in the YouTube age will be our storytellers of the future. Campus MovieFest is a brilliant idea and so well executed. Learn more here.
And then check out this compelling five minute film called Onus. It’s quite impressive.
Yuck
Political spending for Presidential campaigns is like an arms war, forever escalating. He or she who raises the most money always wins.
I wish there was a better way. I wish that Congress and the powers that be would truly take reform in campaign funding seriously. In this last campaign, one could give a max of $60k to each party. And “bundlers” soon became my new best friend. In Virginia state campaigns for Governor, the amount you can give is “limitless”.
For candidates to raise $1 billion so quickly for a national campaign just invites political favor payback and issues that are not about best interest of the country but in the best interest of “show me the money”. There has got to be a better way.
Another
Another short-handed game with eight players out and nine when you include Brian Pothier;
Another sellout and redout (thank you very much!);
Another tough battle at home;
Another great win. We are monsters at home, 14-1-1;
Another highlight reel goal by Alex Ovechkin;
Another game where we show belief in the system and the coaches and the plan;
Another two point night not much more to say. We are now second in the East. Other than that, we are humbled and grateful. And oh yeah, Let’s Go Caps!
George Michael, The Dean of…
…Local sports casting will not have his show seen on NBC any longer due to big budget cutbacks everywhere in traditional media.
I for one will miss him although I know a few of our fans will never forgive him for the attached predictions. Check it out.
I respect George. He was a Caps season ticket holder for a long time so we all must thank him for his business too. I hope to see him back at Verizon Center soon.
Benjamin Button
I am not usually one to enjoy big Hollywood productions starring tabloid movie stars in a film chock full of CGI. When my family wanted to go see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night, I was not happy and was expecting the worst.
But I have to admit in this case that I was wrong. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a great film. It is very engrossing with great storytelling and acting. And the CGI helps the story along but it doesn’t get in the way of the directing and storytelling.
Brad Pitt plays the part well. It is his part of a lifetime. I forgot about him as a movie star in this part. He is Benjamin Button and NOT a heartthrob who plays the same part in every film. Well done all around.
The film is long but well edited and a very good holiday film for the family to see.
