Good

Good. Some of our players were disrespected. Good. They will play with a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the season. They can rest up for the second half of the season too. Good.

Good. We respect them and treat them like All-Stars. We will pay them like All-Stars too. Good. Our fans treat them like they are All-Stars too because they are, right? Good.

We will learn that the way we will get the respect we deserve is to win a Stanley Cup. Good.

End of this subject. Good.

  1. Well that’s a good public attitude. Good. :)

Maybe there is just a simple misunderstanding with fans on what the league’s interest in accomplishing is here.

Does the league want to showcase the storied, popular, and healthy teams with maybe not the best players in the NHL, but good ones?

Or does it want to take the opportunity to expose the exceptional players on teams in smaller markets to fans and non-fans who may not see them much, or from teams that may be struggling/getting financial support from the NHL (for instance). Maybe a little more market share for the NHL…

Okay, probably some of both, but given that we have a “Winter Classic”, I’d say while we don’t want an event of “no-names”, the league would still want to lean towards the latter for the All-Star game. Does Mr. Bettman think we’re going to get that aspect relying strictly on a popular vote?

I’m sure Mr. Bettman is a much smarter man than those who wonder what in the Wide Wide World of Sports is going on.

Still, one may wonder a bit what type of operation we are running. It seems there is an inability to determine when a steady hand and letting things run their course needs to take a back seat to decisive intercession. Oh, we’re talking sports not the economy, sorry.

  2. Amen indeed.

Ironic isn’t it that tomorrow, the team with *four* all-stars is the team the Caps play. Imagine how it will look if the Caps go into Montreal and skate home with a (hopefully big) victory…
    :)

  3. Agreed. As Rick Flair used to say: “To BE the man, you have to BEAT the man.”
