Sad to say. Hope he gets on the mend soon. See article here.

In a perfect world Olie will recover quickly here in Washington, be released by Tampa and will be able to sign with the Caps at some level (coaching, PR, the justice department?) and will be here for a Stanley Cup run and Win.
We still owe Olie the Goalie so much here, I hope he will be able to participate in the inevitable success the Caps gain.
ps to Mike L – Did you forget #19 in your rafter roster?
It is sad. He is a free agent at the end of this coming season and who knows if there is a team that will sign him for 2009-10. It’s likely that this will be the end of what has been a magnificent career.
I’m sure the plans are already in the works for an “Olie Kolzig” night. My guess would be in the 2010-11 season (in 2009-10, there needs to be a Peter Bondra night, when #12 goes to the rafters with 5, 7, 11 and 32).
Then #37 can join them the next year, and then, in the late 2020s, early 2030s, numbers 8 and 52 (and perhaps 28?)
Here’s to a speedy recovery! Good luck, Ollie!
Yes, it’s sad to see Olie injured, needing major surgery and facing the potential end to his career. It would have been nice to send him out with his name on the Cup as a Cap but it never worked out for the team that way. I hope that, when things have settled and emotions calmed, he’ll find his way back into the Capitals family and we can honor him for his tremendous service to both the team and community at an appropriate time in the future.
hopefully this is not the end of a great career for olie the goalie…but if it is, i believe his last game was a win against the habs, where he let in one goal and played great leading his team to a win.
he will probably make a great goldtender coach. lets hope his dc surgery goes great so at least he can make up his own mind on playing next year.
