Bruceeeeeeeee!
Here is a very nice piece in USA Today on our coach. He is one of a kind and we are lucky to have him serve so well in our franchise.
Sometimes We Steal a Point We Don’t Deserve, Sometimes We Give One Away
We gave away a point last night on the road in the second of back to back games.
We all wish we hadn’t but we did and that is that. A 3-2 loss with all of the goals scored against us on the power play proves we have work to do to become more focused and disciplined.
We now have some time to relax as a team. The players will get to reconnect with their families and friends; get some sleep; take care of aches and pains; and basically recharge.
Many of us will be going to Montreal for meetings and the festivities but ONLY Alex Ovechkin will be going as a player. I hope he gets some chill time too during the next week.
We then get into the home stretch after the break. We will be playing a lot of games within our division. We should be healthy and we need to take care of business to stay in playoff contention and position ourselves well should we make the playoffs.
Overall, when we started the season, if you had asked, ”Will you be happy having the second best record in the East at the All-Star break?” I would have answered, “Yes!” So while we have work to do, we can reflect on a job well done so far; take a few days off; then get back at it post All-Star game. Go Caps!
New York’s Camelot Envy
This article echoes what I have been saying of late on my blog. In the past, LA was about glamour and celebrity. New York was about money and DC was about power. You saw all three worlds here this long weekend colliding together and trying to mesh. DC is one popular destination now.
DC is co-mingling celebrity, power and money into a new concoction. Washington Life magazine calls it “Pollywood” but that doesn’t capture the finance aspect.
We need a new term to describe what we have evolved into. We are the ultimate hyphenate city now - buzz, celeb, finance, money and power - any ideas on a new descriptor for us here in DC? Post away.
A New White House Website
The new administration has its act together. The new site went live at noon and it is a really welcome change from the old Web 1.0 style website style of the Bush Administration. It has an open, clean feel and is easy to navigate. It is well done. Check it out.
Living in DC these past few days was like living in downtown Manhattan on New Year’s Eve. It has been festive; fun; inconvenient; crowded; dirty; and crazy. It was a once in a lifetime experience. My son said, ”Dad, DC is the greatest city in the world.” I always agree with my family when they say something simple and profound.
Now the City and Feds have to clean the place up; reopen the roads; tone down the security look and feel; and help us all go back to work and to getting on with our lives.
Change is here. Great! Now let us stop the talk and do the work.

Us and the Bankers
I wouldn’t be surprised if the U.S. Government ACQUIRED, NATIONALIZED and OPERATED the big banks at some time in the near future. There are 10,000 people running the financial institutions and who are considered traders. They all were selling while the rest of America was watching our new President speak and hoping for a better day.
Talk about a disconnect. Talk about being outside of the rest of the world’s mindset. Talk about two realities.
BUT the banks are being saved by our MONEY. They had better get wise soon. They had better start to believe in our future and have confidence in our system. I am being serious when I say that I can see a day when the U.S. Government takes over and manages banks because their management has LOST THE CONFIDENCE of our political leaders.
HBO is Great
Check out the online version of the concert from the Lincoln Memorial here. It was just a fantastic show. Congrats to HBO for pulling this one off with such class and dignity. Well done.

Bold Face Names
I have to name drop a bit because part of the fun of the weekend was meeting folks that you would never have the chance to speak with in an informal setting.
So to begin so far this weekend, I have had the chance to meet and talk to:
- Our new First Lady. She is a charming, warm and friendly person with more energy and passion than you can imagine. We were star struck and we insisted on a photo opportunity;
- Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm. Who knew he was a huge NBA and NHL fan? We chatted a bit about Gilbert Arenas. He is droll and taller than you would expect;
- Ari Emanuel. He gave me a huge hug and a high five;
- Ben Affleck. We know each other a bit and he was very warm, very happy and told me to give a kiss to my daughter;
- John King of CNN. He is a very savvy guy who gets the blogosphere and loves the Wizards;
- Tim Geithner. I asked him to wire me a trillion dollars stat;
- Spike Lee. He was mad that the Wizards beat the Knicks on Friday night. We talked movies;
- David Gregory. He is a tall man with dance moves and a fun personality;
- Jerry Yang. We go way back to his founding of Yahoo.
And on and on.
Yesterday was an amazing day. Washington DC is the epicenter now of power, glitz and money. It is an amazing time now to live and work here in the Nation’s Capital.
