Two for Two This Weekend

Another two points; another sellout crowd; and another productive day of work.

We have so many things to work on. We need to get better but we do have 68 points right now playing mostly against teams NOT in our division. I am pleased with where we are and that we have gained 5 of 6 points available since the All-Star break.

Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL in goals and Mike Green leads all D men in goals and points. That is a powerful one–two punch, isn’t it?

It is amazing to consider that Alex isn’t even finished with his fourth year as a pro – he has 30 or so games left in the regular season - and already has 199 goals scored, one more to get to 200. That is astounding. He is averaging 50 goals per year for 4 years. Yikes! :-)  I think he will be number 4 on the Caps all time goal scoring lead by season’s end too…in just 4 seasons!

We now have the second most points in the East and we play NJ on Tuesday in NJ. That will be a very tough and very competitive game.

Beating Ottawa today felt good as well. I remember a game where they put up 11 goals on us. They were scary good. The tables have tuned now and we play with a lot of confidence against them. Go Caps!

  1. I can’t say I blame them for letting up in the third. That was some great hockey with some amazing hits that maybe cost us a goal, but I think everyone on the caps bench was having fun. Semin smiling after a near “hitman like” miss that could’ve easily taken his head off further exemplifies that they were having fun. Hope everyone can keep it up and stay at the top.

  2. The Caps proved over the past week they are among the elite teams in the league. Now to really prove it, they need to get out there and finish off the division by mid-March and focus on maintaining the #2 spot in the East (guaranteed home ice advantage in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs).

Great win vs. Detroit, good win vs. Ottawa (they let up a little in the 3rd…)
