Ain’t as Easy as It Looks

When someone is running against an incumbent - in politics or in business - it is always easy to critique and to say, “That is wrong. Here is how it should be done.” If you say it with enough conviction, people will believe you too.

Shadow boxing and saying “I can do better” is a good way to get elected or sometimes to get the new job or promotion.

But the day to day reality of leading and managing an enterprise comes with a series of tough decisions and life is complicated and full of surprises. Sometimes things don’t work out with no fault of your own.

Our new President had a tough day. Two key folks that he supported withdrew their nominations. Add these nominations to Bill Richardson at Commerce. Ouch.

Three bad choices for key management positions, you just know someone is keeping notes and tabs on the other side and will use this information the same way our new President would have done with this info against the incumbent.

The circle of life will continue.

Same old same old.

Blame. Recrimination. Gotcha.

  1. What did you expect? Politics is politics and it has been rough business since the founding of the country.

  2. He brought it all on himself Ted. He’s not a good decision maker in the first place and his associates have been questionable for two decades – he is a good looking, somewhat polished man who swooned a mass media and in so doing – a major part of this nation.

Will he be judged honestly and truthfully, or will his “historicity” give him a pass there too?

  3. Teddy, Ouch is an understatement. It’s ARROGANCE. No sense of BASIC right or wrong. Elected Officials are no longer public servants. It’s very discouraging. I honestly do worry about the future of this country. But, We will get through these hard times.

  4. Blame-recrimination-gotcha, yes. What he needed to do to avoid it was follow his own campaign promises and nominate (and then check out) real “change” candidates instead of the same old insiders; then maybe they wouldn’t get caught being part of the system as it was.
