Protectionism is a reaction brought on by people that think economic growth is a zero sum game. Capitalism is not zero sum. There is enough to go around.
The real travesty is that immigrants understand the greatness of America and the opportunities the American capitalistic and entrepreneurial systems offer them a whole lot better than most home-grown and educated American citizens do. America isn’t great because we’re any better than any other country’s people. We aren’t just lucky either. We’re great because the founding principles of the country allow people to be rewarded for effort and service to their fellow people.
Bring on the immigrants that want to be owners, want to be productive, and want to ultimate be Americans. They consider it a slight and an insult to live in the public trough. Instead of being envious, jealous, or protectionist, we should applaud this and participate.
I don’t see how this is a democrats or republican’s issue. That article is right on the money though, its hungry (for success) imigrants that have made this country great and we shouldn’t be afriad of the competition. Not to mention legal, registered immigrants are never the problem and at least they’d help balance out the millions coming across our southern border who aren’t contributing much when they get here.
Very interesting idea on how to fix our economy. Ironically enough, even though it’s a very capitalistic idea the majority of Republicans would be very much opposed to it. The Republican party has become a party of stupid, regressive dogmas and contradictions instead of a true progressive conservative force.
