Odd Game – Take the Point and Be Happy

It was a strange game and a strange third period and shootout during a long season. We will play in games such as this one and be happy with a standings point.

We sure were in the penalty box a lot during the third period, weren’t we? There were some phantom calls out there but I believe, over the season, they all even out.

I was unaware of rule 25.2 regarding shootout goals as was our goaltender, coach and most fans. Live and learn.

The Rangers played desperate hockey last night trying to avoid a season sweep by us. There was a real intensity to the game and it was a fun one to watch as a fan.

Mike Green is now historic. He is in the record books. It is so odd that he didn’t qualify for the All-Star game for whatever logic at that time was out there. But he is now a candidate for the Norris Trophy and leads all D men in points and goals by a wide margin.

Perhaps the wisdom of crowds is overrated?

ON to Florida for the father/son weekend and back to back games. Three road games in a row.

It is time to heal up as well and hope to get some of our key players who were MIA last night back in the lineup.

  1. Some of the penalties were a bit touchy, but that call on Poti was a good one. He was barely touched by one of the Rangers, and he went down like he got a two-hander to the back of the knees.

Yeah, Lundqvist also embellished a call later in the game when Nick Backstrom went through the crease, but in that case, the ref would have had to call both of them and disrupt and delay the flow of a game that needed to be put out of its misery as soon as possible… which of course meant it had to go to a shoot-out…

  2. One thing that I see happen on a regular basis is Morrison taking tons of penalties(major penalties) and Schultz seems to be always involved in a defensive breakdown(he seems like he’s trying to move in quick sand). As you well know playoff hockey is all about Teams. I feel with better teams in the post season if the CAPS D take so many penalties I don’t see us doing that much.

I have faith in GMGM. No dominant team in the East except Boston and I think we match up well with them. Only team that right now is leaps a head of CAPS is Shark. Got to get stronger on blue line weather it be by bringing up another Hershey player or trade. I think schultz and morrison are good D-men for a team not making the playoffs but not for a cup contending team

  3. Some of those penalties were harsh and questionable, but the game goes on. I was really glad to see the Caps kill the long double minor which also put them in a 5 on 3 situation for a long time. This along with many other events helped the team get a point in OT.

  4. Take solice in the fact that the NYR are built FOR AND ONLY FOR the shootout portion of the NHL. They can’t win otherwise. 9 of their 30 wins (almost 1/3) are shootout wins. They WILL NOT last in the playoffs when there’s no shootout after an overtime period.
