Mass Hysteria Redux!

First, Alex Ovechkin would not re-sign in DC and the world as we knew it was ending. We saw how that one tuned out: Thirteen years of a deal and a MVP.

Now we won’t be able to keep our team together built around our core of young talent. Japers’ tries to calm the nerves of a nation of nabobs of negativity.

Cap management is key in the new NHL world. Kudos to this blog for trying to make some sense of the numbers.

  1. As a secondary thought… there may be some players that will need to make a decision between a higher salary with another team, and staying with the Caps at a more reasonable rate (and hopefully a Cup run…or two… in the future).

“But… what about the Cup holder??!!” :)

  2. Interesting read. It will be just as interesting to see how it all plays out ‘in the real world’.

I’m sure there will be some fan favorites that might find a new team…. but unfortunately, thats just part of the way the league is structured with no limit to individual salaries, but a limit to overall team salary.

Regardless, I’m sure the Caps mgt will do a great job, and will keep the people (‘assets’) that they need to.

    LETS GO CAPS!

  3. The one thought I had at last night’s game when the refs completely missed the high stick on Ovechkin away from the play (talk about dirty play) but did manage to issue a one-sided roughing penalty after the fact, was if it wouldn’t be considered inappropriate by the NHL, it would be funny to have a little clip from The Longest Yard (recent version) – where Adam Sandler as the QB throws a rocket right into the crotch of one of the referees and then comes over and asks, “Now, are you going to call this game fair?”

  4. It’s endemic here I’m afraid…there is no way to stop the mass hysteria!

  5. There are going to be some tough decisions, but right now, I’m sure the Caps are in good shape.

The Caps do need to win now *and* later!

  6. Ted–

I know this is off topic(but I wanted you to see it), but I missed posting this after the Flyers game, so here goes. I love the video montage that the guys have put together to amp up the crowd at the end of the game, however I have one humble suggestion. Eliminate the Invincible and Rocky portions when the dirty, unkempt individuals from filthadelphia are in the house(if not get rid of them all together). Caps fans have done a lot better about keeping those fans out, but the opposition went absolutely nuts during those portions of the video. It was rather disheartening.

Just a humble thought from a brand new season ticket holder. C A P S CAPS CAPS CAPS!
