Wow! That is all I can say after seeing this film. Amazing production values; amazing story; amazing acting; psychedelic trippy animation; and a script that I didn’t get but I couldn’t NOT watch every scene. The film is agonizingly long but it is a must see. It will be a cult favorite as well as a very popular film with the youth market.
The film is mind-blowing and an event. Check out this info on Wikipedia too for more information on the film. Wow!
Agree with LSJ for the most part.
I am sure that you are quite busy, but reading the graphic novel would clear up a lot of the things that you didnt get. It isnt a by-the-numbers “superhero” story.
If the idea of reading a graphic novel doesnt sit well wih you, at least take solace in the fact that Time Magazine rated Watchmen as one of the top 100 works of literature if the twentieth century.
The acting was good except for the Silk Spectre. Also, ozymandias was ok, but he screamed “I’m the villain!” right from the beginning, which was not supposed to be obvious until towards the end.
At the risk of stating the obvious, you need to read the graphic novel. Even at its length, there’s a lot that’s compressed in the movie. For example, the introductory montage (over which Dylan’s The Times They Are A Changin’ plays) covers a lot of exposition that seemed to get more detail in the book.
Also thought that Snyder’s tone was a little uneven and the movie veered from a very dark tone to more traditional comic book fare a couple of times. And without naming names, there was one performance in the movie that I thought was laughably bad (though the rest of the acting was really good).
