Now That was Entertaining…

…And maddening; and fun; and scary all at the same time.

It was a goofy game. We won 2 points and we didn’t suffer any significant injuries so I am happier than sad.

But we have to tighten up again. I would prefer to see us winning 2 to 1 rather than 5 to 4 in a shootout.

It was a weird night. Do I hug Alex Semin or avoid him? :-)  He was on the ice for all 8 goals!

And has anyone noticed that Backstrom is having a monster season?

Joe Thornton – who I believe is one of the very best players in the league on one of the best teams - has 20 goals and 54 assists for 74 points. Backstrom? He has 19 goals and 55 assists for 74 points. Wow. And Nick just turned 21 years old.

Alex Ovechkin needs 1 more goal to get 50, another amazing goal scoring season.

Mike Green broke out of his goal scoring slump too to get his 24th. Could he get 30 for the year?

And Alex Semin is perhaps the most productive offensive player in the NHL. Check his stats for points and plus/minus per games played.

But the big story of the night was the goaltending work by Jose Theodore. He is underappreciated. He deserved the first star of the game last night.

Take the two points and get back on the road. It is sobering to think we only have 4 more home games left this season. Time flies when you are having fun.

  1. I am in total awe of Semin…Ovie & Backstrom. Wait can I change that to I am in awe of the whole 2008-2009 caps roster? ;) And Theodore WOW what can I say? He takes a lot of trash talking in the media and by hockey fans but he has been on top of his game esp lately making me very proud to be a Theo fan & proving to me why he is my personal all time favorite goalie! GO CAPS!!!

  2. T and Verizon Center Staff:
Please try to snuff out some of the drinking/ out of control behavior that is going on.. we are season ticket holders and have noticed things are getting out of hand at VC the last month or so. Last night, there were TWO FIGHTS (blood involved) in our section – 421- there are characters the last few games from the opposing that seem to want to fight and abuse the caps fans around them once they have had a few drinks- this needs to STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sometimes in row D, but these “fans” change every game so its not limited to one group. Its only recently become a problem, but it is a problem if I don’t feel safe!
    Thanks..

  3. Already down here in Fla for the game Tue. Cool breeze has us at a freezing 79 degrees.

  4. to go deep in the palyoffs the forwards need to do a better job of back checking, take the pressure off the young d and permit them to continue to throw some weight around and send a message to opposing forwards, as well as stressing the importance of getting someone to sacrifice in front of opposing goalies, hell with rules changes you cant get hacked, cross checked or hammered in the back anymore without the d recieving a costly 2 minutes in the sin bin..get focused and tough in those areas, the Caps need grit to support the abundance of talent, thats what wins hockey games in the playoffs, mark my words! All the best, The Moan

  5. It looks like Green was also on the ice for all goals scored tonight also. A -3 for Semin and Green, which is really ironic considering they are our two best players in the Plus/Minus department for the year by a wide margin. Not that all the Carolina goals were all their fault. I noticed that for the 5 on 1 that failed (and resulted in a goal for Carolina), we had 4 forwards and 1 D-man on the ice, a combination that’s usually a Power Play lineup. (And, yes we used that group on the power play.) Carolina is great in the break-away department and scored shorties against us last week.

  6. you say you would prefer winning 2 -1 than 5-4 in a shootout

    why ?

it is a trueism of the sports business that
“offense sells tickets and defense wins games”

so i guess you are not interested in a team that makes money

how much fun was it for your fans last year when ovechkin went 11 games without scoring a goal ?

  7. ted..were winning and here is a email…t-doors play of late ..he,s ready … the team as a whole is almost ready..one thing that sticks out like a sore-one…letting teams back in te game in the third.. and thank god no shoot outs in the playoffs.. I think brucie will go down as the second best coach in caps history…and one thing how does it feel to sell out so many times this year I remeber when you first took over you could not give them away..12 games to go…lets go caps..98caps

  8. Exciting game, but please tell me there is a plan for improving the ice for the playoffs. To have the most skilled team in the league and not provide them the best ice is a disgrace. I can understand if there was a NCAA playoff game, but the Globetrotters?!!?? We need to renegotiate our lease deal and get some more respect,. Last time I looked, the Caps were the ones filling the building
