Alex Redux as Difference Maker

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I agree. Alex Semin is one of the most gifted players in the NHL.

A first round steal for us in the draft, he was picked middle of the pack via a trade deadline deal for Adam Oates all those many years ago.

He is still young but he is developing well. He needs to stay healthy and remain focused at all times but he is truly an elite player and everyone around the NHL now knows it.

I Finished Reading “The Black Swan”

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I finally finished this book, probably one of the five best business and social science books I have ever read. I recommend it highly and I think it should be mandatory reading by everyone in business and government today.

It will really stick with me. Read this article in Portfolio as well on it.

And remember, it is better to be lucky than good. :-)

“Milk”

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

My family and I went to see the film Milk last night.

I understand why Sean Penn won the Academy Award for lead actor now and why the film won for best screenplay too.

I thought the film was magnificent. It captured the country’s mood and the time in history so very well.

The story was compelling. The direction was great and the ensemble cast was first class. The intermingling of acting and newsreel footage was edited superbly.

I think Milk was one of the best films of the year. We really appreciated it as a work of art and for its powerful story and its historic performance by Sean Penn. A masterpiece indeed.

What’s Not to Laich?

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Do you think Ottawa doesn’t miss Brooks Laich in their line-up?

He was a second round pick and one of their best prospects. We traded Peter Bondra to Ottawa at the trade deadline for Brooks Laich and a pick.

Peter then signed with Atlanta in the off season and Brooks came to develop and play for us. He won a championship with the Bears and he is now a steadfast fixture on our club. He is young. He is special and he is a hockey player!
