I am glad we won last night and picked up two more points. We are making a race for the top spot in the East with nine games left to play. This should be fun and interesting now.
I am happy for Alex Ovechkin and that he passed 50 goals once again.
I won’t comment on his goal scoring celebration. He is enthusiastic and a show man and now I hope he is totally focused on getting ready for playoff hockey. All that matters to us and to him is how we do as a team. We are way past personal achievements now as an organization.
I do take umbrage to Tampa though commenting on this celebration as I do remember the new ownership entering the league and declaring they would win the division championship this year even before the first puck was dropped. The celebrations and word play cut both ways I believe.
Saturday will be a very rough and tumble game.
Then we finally get some rest to heal up and practice our systems again.
A long season is rapidly coming to a close. Go Caps!
I find it funny that Don Cherry dresses like a pimp, and talks smack about others being flamboyant.
Eat it Cherry.
Bush. I know it. You know it. His coach knew it.
Whether or not one agrees with what the new Ning owners said before the season started about winning the division, it does not excuse what A.O. did.
Furthermore, trying to compare the two is a real stretch.
I really do not understand what it is about hockey that makes the fans and management so hostile to the things that will draw people to the sport. Ovechkin has flavor and a personality. He lights up the ice when he plays and people who have never been big fans of the sport are drawn to him and his achievements.
A goal celebration cannot demean the game of hockey or the NHL. Fighting demeans the game. A season lost to a strike demeans the game. Don Cherry’s existence demeans the game. OV enhances it.
Ovechkin is out there recruiting a new legion of fans. Fans the league has to have in order to thrive in every market.
I want more people to care about hockey; to take an interest in the game. I want people to get their kids involved and themselves also. It’s a beautiful sport that needs to be fostered and grow. I spend so much time trying to bring people into the sport. Dragging friends to the rink or just inviting them over to watch a game. I want them to see a dynamic sport that is fun to watch and get caught up in. So let OV be OV and skip the crying.
if he did it to upset don cherry, good for him.the old man is out of place to berate ovie on anything.50 goals is a milestone to be celebrated wherever you are, however you want.can’t wait to see the celebration when the caps win the cup.
ted, please make sure that quentin laing knows that there are a lot of people who want to wish him a speedy recovery. he’s got a ton of fans who were excited to see him get his chance this year. if there was a poll asking which player was most likely to bust an internal organ for the team, he’d be at the top of the list. thanks.
If they don’t want him to celebrate, they should stop letting him score.
This is a sport where you can beat the crap out of someone with your bare fists and get only 5 minutes and the box, and people are ranting about a little goal celebration. Everyone needs to grow up and get a life. When a person can score 50 goals in the NHL.. then they get the right to complain about goal celebrations.
Cry me a river
I’m a huge Caps fan, but Ovechkin’s celebration was over the top and in bad taste. I never had any problem with anything he did before because it all seemed spontaneous. Last night’s nonsense clearly was not. Cherry seems to have created a monster with his comments.
