Didn’t Like

I didn’t like last night’s game. I didn’t like the missed calls or the non calls or the strange calls at all. I understand how difficult it is to make decisions at high speed but I do think when stars get cross checked into the boards and hit their head or get smashed in the face with a stick, the calls need to be more definitive.

I didn’t like the calls that didn’t protect our players when they took shots to the head or face. The Mike Green call should have been a tougher one against Carolina or the soft call on Alex Ovechkin at the end of the game looked dangerous to me. We must protect our players and the refs are the main representative of the NHL on the ice. There was a non call on the opening tripping call against Alex Ovechkin as well. And Tomas didn’t dive either on his tripping call. I usually don’t fret about officiating but last night was concerning to me. Make the right protective calls and send the message for all. Protect the players from shots to the face and head. See Japers’ for more information.

Stereotypical

I was working out and flipping through the channels on my TV and stumbled on Bill Maher interviewing former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

A Q&A session then follows. Bill says to her, ”Say the first thing that jumps into your mind when I say a name.”

He says, ”Osama Bin Laden”. She says “Nuts” and the audience laughs.

He says, “Idi Amin”. She says “Nuts” and the audience giggles.

He says, “Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran”. She says “Nuts”. Audience laughs.

He says, “George W. Bush”. Audience boos and she says “Nuts”. Audience belly laughs.

He says “President of France Sarkozy”. She says “Dynamic” and the audience gives a loud ovation.

What lazy programming. Just mail it in, Bill.

Just to Tweak

For my wife’s 40th birthday, I rented out Necker Island. We invited friends and family. We had a very nice time. It was very caring and warm and private. It didn’t make news, happy to say. :-)  There was no Twitter or Facebook or  YouTube.

Necker Island is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Richard Branson has done magnificent work in developing a once in lifetime experience for folks that go there. I understand why people would want to celebrate big events on that special island.

Thanks for This One

Check out this article, a good and fair perspective.

As I have noted, Alex is all about the team and the team’s progress. It is time to now officially move on to other pressing matters.

It is now time to turn our attention to a tough game tonight in Carolina.
We play Tampa two more times this season – at home and at Tampa - so we must respect them and try for 4 more points in the standings.

And then we must focus on playing well to get in playoff modality and shape.

The clock is ticking. Time to move on to more pressing matters for us as a team.
