Why Do You Think They Call It April Fools’ Day?

Ever wonder why?

Back in the day April 1st, the first day of spring, was considered the New Year.

When the New Year day moved to January 1st, some folks kept to April 1st as the New Year’s beginning and hence they were called April Fools. Of course this all started in France! And it was the handiwork of a King. I kid you not. Here is a link to the Wikipedia page for even more info.

My biggest laugh was when Google announced Gmail on April 1st and most industry people thought it was a  joke. ”April Fools! Google would never expand its reach and business outside of search.” The joke was on us all.

I was once involved in a big April Fools’ Day prank at AOL. I got in trouble for participating and then and there realized that we had become a serious utility for news and information for consumers. There is no life to be found on Jupiter, I swear. :-)
