Really Good News and Some Bad News

Check more items off the list we established last off season.

We finished second in the East behind only Boston. We wanted to finish first in the East and didn’t get that check mark completed.

We secured home ice advantage all the way through the Eastern Conference playoffs except if we play Boston.

We garnered the most points in franchise history with 108.
We have tied the most wins ever for our club with 50 but we still have one game left to play.

We have ended the season with a pretty good road record.

The regular season is almost over. We will play either Montreal or New York in the playoffs starting either next Wednesday or Thursday at Verizon Center. All is good news.

The bad news? None of it matters, does it now? :-)

We expected to do well in the regular season. It is nice to check off the list of things to do but it will be much, much better to have success in the playoffs. We know it. The players talk about it. We have reached that part in our development. Making the playoffs is only the start now. We have many more check marks left to go and we all know it.

Human nature, too, is a wonderful thing to watch. We did just achieve some things no other club has done in team history so it is cause for some celebration - not too much – but some. And overnight I received 15 emails all of them with complaints about radio signal; telemarketing mistakes; playoff ticket scarcity; food and usher service issues; jersey numbering matters; traffic related to games; and lack of tickets available for the Frozen Four.

Thanks for keeping us humble out there. We know we have work left to do. But it will be OK to smile a little bit more today than usual. Thank you Caps fans. Onward we go…

  1. The company brokerages network will provide you with access to a big pool of individuals who’ve the information about businesses for sale and buyers or investors searching for a organization venture. By making great use from the info you have, you may be cutting a provide and make a handsome profit out from the transactions.

  2. and by the way…The HEll with capitalism…There’s enough money in this county for “EVERYONE” to drive a beamer and have some filet mignon with wine DAILY

  3. Uhhh I am very thankful for a good year, but when people use potty mouth to say stupid and disgusting things, it makes me cringe…Please to anyone who says that this might never happen again, Move the **** out of my town and find another team, this is disrespectful and really logically dumb…next year will only get better
    Go Caps

  4. Ted, I came on line today — after the team got its 50th win – just to see if YOU had a post about how bad your email was last night. You are getting too easy to predict:

Caps do well and poor ‘ol Ted gets negative email … AFTER ALL HE HAS DONE FOR US.

And sure enough, people rush to coddle you; others say hit “x,” still others advise you (see above): “there will always be whiners.”

Given your mastery of the Internet, you of all people know that when you open up your account to emails from every corner of the world, you’ll sure to get crazies, negative Nancies, or both.

So, I gotta ask: do you just like being hard-done-to man?

  5. I am disappointed that I have to wait until the schedule comes out due to travel distance. I travel an hour and a half (from Aberdeen, MD) to see the Caps and can’t put the time into a season ticket package. I hope there are a few individual tickets for at least the first round.

  6. One of the many things I love about this team is that as good as it is, it still has much positive potential. In the immediate each player on the roster has a great “A” game. Thanks Capitals for all of the amazing moments this season!

  7. I am so proud to be a Caps fan – No whinning here – The Caps are AWESOME – Ted is AWESOME – and most of the fans are AWESOME. Just wish this town had been this into the team the past ten years! People who haven’t been have missed some great times!! GO CAPS – AND FOREVER ROCK THE RED !!!!

  8. Good on the Caps. Hope more checkboxes are checked off. Looking forward to Rocking my Red through the Spring.

  9. now is the time..for the boys to get hungry..every game every shift caps hockey..play and do what they do and above all…have some fun..IN 98 when the boys went to the dance..every game every series win..what a great feeling as a long time fan..It sent chills…and you know iam feeling those chills again..this is the team thats gunna turn a lot of heads in the playoffs..now is the time..and its been a long one…lets go capitals…lets go capitals…lets go capitals…98caps

  10. Mr. Leonsis – when you are able to fix traffic in DC, it will be a miracle. I suggest you work on the middle east crisis after that. ;) I guess this is the price you pay being a public figure.

  11. I love “The List”. I love the “check marks”. It keeps everybody focused and eyes on goal. I am trying to incorporate the list & check mark concept into my family’s life, and especially into my son’s life. Remember, Enjoy the moment, enjoy the journey, the victories will come. Way To Go Caps!

  12. With regards to playoff ticket scarcity…uh, 40 percent of all seats during the season are sold below face value by brokers online. there are over 1000 tickets being sold online for about 25-100 dollars over face value so i really feel no sympathy for those people who did not bother to get full season tickets and now whine about having to pay a little extra for playoff tickets. I know with the government giving everything away, many people seemed to have forgotten that we do practice capitalism here in this country. Stop whining about tickets and buy them now before they even go up more next week or the Rangers fans and canadien fans fill the building cause they travel well and they pay much more than what tickets are going for right now…

  13. Thanks again for a wonderful season so far! Only record I want to see the Caps tie is 16 wins in the playoffs!

  14. Hi Ted,

Just think for every one of them e-mails complaining about this, that and the other, there are thousands of joyfull fans doing mini celebrations of the accomplishments thus far. Thanks for being the BEST owner in all of sports. You have set the bar for the team and the league. The speed of the team is the speed of the leader!!

  15. None of it matters….your right. You, the Team, Coaches and Fans have a lot to be happy about…we should all be thankful for what we have!

  16. I love how this team has done so well this year and yet they still are not satisfied. WE are not satisfied. I still am mind boggled by where the team was a mere three seasons ago…and I think that is the factor which keeps this teams’ feet on the ground. Because who knows when this will happen again?! Take nothing for granted! Here’s to one last regular season win and a successful playoff run!

  17. The radio signal came in strong in Loudoun County for me and I was on the road a good deal last night driving my inlaws, wife and son here and there for school, Easter related events.

Playoff tix are scarce, these aren’t your Father’s Caps anymore and there is a huge demand. Last year I was able to buy online for games 1 and 7 and so were a lot of Flyer fans unfortunately. If a lack of a public sale keeps opposing fans out of the building, this is great. I’m a non STH so I went to Stub Hub. Ordered the ticket Wednesday, had it in my hands Thursday afternoon. The added cost dodn’t upset me, you got to do what you got to do to see this team now. I plan to do this one game every round through the Cup Finals :)
