It is the playoffs.
It will be a long, tough series. Losing Game 1 at home 4-3 isn’t fun but it isn’t quite the end of the world.
I thought we were the faster and tougher team. I thought we were the more aggressive team. We poured on a lot of shots. We didn’t get rattled. We didn’t get intimidated. Our focus was good. We controlled the pace of play and we exerted our will on the Rangers.
Our best players were our best players and the right folks scored.
But we lost. And that is all that counts.
There were a couple of plays that we didn’t make and that was the difference in the game.
Our penalty kill wasn’t up to NHL playoff hockey standards.
Life will go on. We will catch our breath. We will still play Game 2 at home on Saturday and then we will travel to NYC to play the Rangers at the Garden.
Keep the faith.
I will.
I am still a big fan and haven’t lost faith, but I sure hope Jose watched the Bruins/Habs game last night and saw what play-off caliber goaltenders look like. The Rangers would have had 2 more goals if not for shots ringing of the post. It was clear that he didn’t see the puck well ALL night the way he was diving at shots that were going 6′ wide of the net, but standing there like a statue for a few of the goals. Being called Jose “three-or-more” has got to sting, so just do better and prove everyone wrong!!
This is the team that brought us here, they will continue to show the few doubters what they’re made of. For those who seem to be forgetting…
you know why we lost…let’s stop messing around and not let INDIVIDUALS LOOSE THE GAME ANYMORE…WE WAITED A WHOLE YEAR FOR THIS…LETTING US DOWN WOULD JUST BE THE MOST DEVASTATING THING EVER
One loss is not the end of the series. We’ll win Game 2 in convincing fashion and make it a best-of-five.
Do me a favor. I’ve got a snarky co-worker who just laughed in my face about Game 1 first thing this morning. This after she’d spent the whole regular season telling me she didn’t follow hockey. PLEASE win this series and shut her the heck up.
Keep the Faith…..Give Jose another game! I think he will surprise all from this game on…the “D” needs to tightenup and play like they are hungry and a top team and not play to the lower level play of the Rangers !!
Any chance of the ice being at least adequate for game 2? Yeah, I didn’t think so…
I’ve got faith in the team, even in Jose, but I wonder about those referees. Some blatant (and puzzling) non-calls last night…
Thanks Ted, for your comments. I’ll keep the faith too!
I can’t agree more. This is the BEST of seven, not the best of three. Last year we won the first, fifth and sixth game and lost the series. This is the beginning, not the end. There is time for adjustments that I am sure everyone is making. If you go back and read the analysis of this series you will see that in no report it says Washington will win this series in four games. HAVE FAITH. Hold true to the spirit of this team and the coach.
It’s gonna be a long hard series. If play remains as it was in the 1st game – it is going to grind out for 7.
It was a great win as a Ranger fan and a fun series opener as a Hockey fan! Here’s to a great week of Hockey along the I 95 corridor.
It will take a lot more than a playoff loss or a series loss for me to lose faith. I believe you guys have such a bright future and it is very early in the process.
Remember Carolina lost the first two games in its first round match up against New Jersey in the 2006 playoffs before storming back and eventually winning the cup! The Caps crowd was great last night, gotta keep it up! This series is still far from over!
Lets Go Caps!!
“Rock On”
Thats why its a best of 7.
We may have lost a battle, but the war is far from over!
Lets Go Caps!
one game does not make a series, but is a start, the loss is not the best start, but the boys won game 1 last year, and that didn’t workout.they played good, better than some of the games leading up to the end of the season.NO FAITH IS LOST AFTER 1 GAME.
well put. Rangers got lucky…
I was at the home opener a year ago and felt that although we won, we did not really control the game. I was at the game last night and felt that we won all the stats that did not count and lost. Maybe it is a good omen in some ways. GO CAPS!
What made the loss extra bad was the concerns of a weak D and even weaker goaltender going into the playoffs all came to center stage, in a bad way. So now the concerns grow even bigger, but it was just one game, not freaking out yet. Go Caps!
