Follow Me on Twitter Now

Some folks have asked so here goes. I am full up on friends on Facebook. I have reached their max allowable number of friends of 5,000. At times, I will blow someone off on my friends list for being too aggressive on my wall or someone will leave the network. This allows me to add a friend from time to time. I do not want to create a Fan page. I am not a celebrity. I think that would NOT be authentic to why I am online and connected to communities that I live within.

So Facebook for me now is pretty static. They should increase the number of allowable friends allowed into my network. I really don’t understand why they won’t allow me to have more friends, ”you gotta have friends”. I also do not regularly use Facebook email. I have enough email at my two primary email accounts. The last thing I need is yet another place to log into and talk to folks. I also think Facebook email is sub optimal in performance.  If you need me and you are a friend, you know my email address. It’s been the same one for the last 17 years. My secondary account is now 9 years old too at Washingtoncaps@aol.com.

I am on Twitter, TedLeonsis is my name. Follow me there. When I blog, my posts automatically go into Twitter via TweetDeck. They get fed into Facebook status updates too. I will also start to Tweet from time to time although I know I can’t compete with CNN on Twitter. CNN stands for the Case News Network as my good friend Steve Case has become a roaming one man news network. Follow him too at SteveCase at Twitter for news you can use.

Read my blog, Ted’s Take, to keep up with me too. I update my blog a lot on a daily basis. It is how I self express.

I read our team’s message boards once or twice per week. I read and respond to all of my email. I have a cell phone, a mobile device, an iPod touch, a Kindle and an AIM account.

I am hyper connected and I am maxed out. I am transparent. Is this progress? You can follow me everywhere now.

  1. Ted- I’m a high school student currently working on a research paper about the effects of online socializing. We required to interview someone as a source. You input on a few questions would be very helpful.

    - What are the negative and positive effects of internet socializing sites like MYspace and Facebook on people?

-Are there any solutions or ways that the negative effects (if any) could be eliminated?

If you would like to respond my email is heather_rouleau@hotmail.com

    Thanks!!

  2. Great timing; as able friend just last night sold me on Twitter. Been on radar, but as mention, don’t think anyone needs another user profile, login, username, password, or inbox.

Out of my vast, national, personal network, individual who responds the quickest and without exception is Ted Leonsis. Will have to think of way to put into words what this means to me.

    Thank you Ted.

Two terms I can absolutely convey are empowering, and encouraging. Put those words in your pocket, carry them around with you, until you feel their weight, and then may know how I consider them. Surprisingly void from our society at large.

    ****
(long one; but well crafted, took all day)

Concur on Facebook e-mail. Surprisingly bad for such a widely used, household web enterprise; not to mention a/the premier social networking model.
    Hmmmm….
Someone somewhere is dialing it in.
    Big problem for them.
Look no further than present topic.

And, yes; why 5,000. Who and how and where was that decided.
Lots of arbitrary numbers out there; particularly with video upload and presentation
applications/services; 20 min. 10 min. 2 gigs, 500 Megs per week and 1 HD Vid.

All very exciting evidence we have entered a period in which technology has surpassed the business models as well as growing portion of the population.

Most in online enterprise community essentially in BETA for foreseeable future.

Sorry Vimeo; I’m not going to pay to upload videos to your service. I have a scalable virtual server
running on state-of-the-art cloud solution. And, 1
HD video per seven days? 52 videos year? Who, is your market?
have over 400 gigs of AVCHD 1080i media. And, place hyperlink to your site automatically
embedded video on my site? And I’m to pay you for this?

Possibly most importantly; what priority does Vimeo place on statement, “For Individual Use Only. Not For Commercial Purposes.” What lines are they attempting to define, at what/whose directive, and how do they intend to monitor and enforce this policy? Or, do they? resources needed for this. My head is about to explode just thinking about it. Bye-bye Vimeo :-)

    Copyrighted material screening on MySpace?

Yes, it is a major motion picture. I’m an actor; clip is of my performance. Was thumb-padding my way to perpetual exit when encountered amazingly absurd user disciplinary work flow I simply had to follow. Have not felt such disregard for authority since High School. They may have hired my principal.

And, upon renaming file, “totallymyvideo” and describing only as, “absolutely my video,” uploaded quickly where remains. Am keeping on thin thread MySpace because friend list and want to track with how handle copyright situation overall.
removed yet empowered enough to sink the ship.

OK, little snarky, but couldn’t be happier with the situation. Particularly timing of HD tech. Just as I acquire state-of-the-art HD camera and software and produce hundreds of gigs of media, the web announces it is fully HD ready. I could not have planned it this well.

As I write this “comment” I gain new and very clear perception of why I have been told, bottom-line directive of any model is to survive in the market. And, “The main idea is to live to fight another day.” Always thought a little lean; why set such low goals? Why bother going into business at all? Now know because most/the rest will not (survive) and eventually; there you are, the unchallenged leader/one of the few/sole survivor. I like this very much.

(Writing used in my process of conceptualization as much as serving any other capacity. Very effective.
And, worth noting shockingly powerful in event/memory recall.)

Heading to close; speaking of “Cloud Technology” picked up WSJ week or so ago. Cite as further evidence (90 percent? )of population largely unaware of what we see next six-months-two yearsbeyond; front page article about Cloud Tech. journalist seems to dismiss as industry buzz word of the day and essentially meaningless. definite sense the writer had little to no clear concept of what he was writing about. Was fluff; on the front page of WSJ. This being a horse racing week give myself 3 to 1 odds can write an arguably better/stronger piece; front page WSJ. (Oops. I think I have to do this now.)

Also, piece in [personal] parroting, “Ted’s Take,” post three days prior; i-Phone/Touch widget/application phenom./interest/usefulness/future-of. WSJ piece half meaningless color images-half text; spatially on the page.
“Ted’s Take,” post more informed, compelling, and interesting. Maybe WSJ should offer you syndication :-)

Horse week; give 2 to 1 odds writer read post, later wrote article in four(being nice)hours before 3:00 pm deadline. Oh; snarky again.
Not only is population being outstripped by the tech.
At large; not doing the work to try and keep up. Which seems to me an exciting opportunity for those who are/are willing to do the work to succeed :-)

Being one of the few/ones paying attention maybe _The_ advantage.

Will give “play button on every page” to another day :-0

See you on the surviving side, Jeff

  3. Wow! Has it really been that long already, 9 years? It only seemed like yesterday to me when you attended your very first practice @ Piney Orchard. You made an absolute effort to meet every media type and every fan in attendance, myself included. That there, even small, is a unforgettable moment.

  4. Hey Ted, like I mentioned previously, your blog and the Caps’ general heavy online presence have made them my favorite NHL team. I’ve been following you on Twitter, but feel like you haven’t really used the service the way it was intended to be used- all you’ve been posting are the auto-generated “new blog post” announcements, it is almost akin to Twitter spam ;) .

Good luck to the Caps today, I’ll be at my computer watching (going to school in the UK, thus net feeds are my only source of Caps goodness).
    Oleg

  5. Ted — Thank you for letting people into your life. I read your blog and I love the things you post on Facebook. You are an innovator with a great mind and a kind heart. However, sometimes you might want to unplug and refresh. The good thing about being so connected is that it’s nice to take an electronic vacation every once in a while — no cost, no travel needed.

    Cheers,

    Alicia Knight

  6. You are one of the most accessible owners, and generous with you time. DC fans think so highly of you. Keep up the good work!
