Tribeca in Full Swing

While in NYC for the Caps vs. Rangers playoff games, I couldn’t help but notice that the Tribeca Film Festival is in full swing. This is such an important film festival with such noble aims. I hope all of you will find a way to support these great folks. Go take in a movie; donate to one of their worthy charities; and adopt and support a filmmaker.

And of course read indieWIRE daily. Click here. We love film festivals and directors and artists. We will cover every nook and cranny of this event. We celebrate it. It is that important to the community.

IndieWIRE is a part of the SnagFilms network of sites. It is growing fast. Its new design has been a huge hit with the industry and with readers and advertisers. We are proud to do our part to help in any way we can.

Do You Know How Big Your Footprint Is?

Human Footprint is a very sobering film and very worthy of your time this Earth Day week. Click here to watch it on SnagFilms.

We each make a huge impact on our environment - most of it fairly negative – during our life span as consumers.

This is a well produced film with great graphics and great knowledge sharing. The narration and writing is very good.

Check it out and take a second to think about how we can do better.

Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head

This is a hot band. The kids love them and I think they are pretty cool too. Check them out here on MySpace. They played the 9:30 Club last week and got very positive reviews.

I have met Natalie Portman. We went to see Nanking together at the Tribeca Film Festival. She is a very smart and talented young woman. I am sure she is smiling at this homage to her.

This band took its name as an inspiration from the role Natalie played in the film “V for Vendetta”. Check them out and rock on.

Don’t Get Too High with the Highs

We won Game 3 three at MSG. We are down 2-1 in this first playoff series. Those are just facts. It is a competitive series again. We played tight, playoff hockey and the skill manifest in our young core of players was evident. Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom and Laich played very well last night. Our best player was our goaltender. He is 20 years old. I think our future continues to look bright as Varlamov was very steady and mature and athletic in goal last night posting a shutout in the playoffs. He is the youngest goalie in NHL history to ever do that at MSG now. Click here for Dan Daly’s article on the game last night. As a reminder, we got the first round pick in the draft to take Varlamov in the Witt trade from Nashville. Witt then signed with the Islanders as a free agent after that season. These are the kinds of trades for vets at the deadline that always concern me and why we don’t like to trade away young assets or picks at the trade deadline.

Celebrate Earth Day with Snagfilms

Here are a bunch of curated films from our library to help you celebrate Earth Day.

On the train ride up to NYC today, I am watching Art from the ArcticClick here to check it out. It’s a fun film about artists, scientists and environmentalists all on a road trip to the end of the Earth.

Enjoy. When you aren’t thinking Red today, think Green!

We Don’t Have to Win Four Games

We have to win one game – four times.

That is exactly the sentiment we must prove out now starting tonight. Read this blog post, well done.

The NHL Playoffs are psychologically taxing. A team works so hard during the long season; creates a giant body of work; and then the playoffs start and every team goes to 0-0. A team loses two games in a row - no big deal in the regular season - but in the playoffs, yikes! The world could be ending. I have some friends who live in the Silicon Valley area that are “dying inside” over the first two games of the playoffs between the Sharks and the Ducks. The Sharks had the most points in the entire NHL but they are down 2-0 as well. The Sharks lost 5 games all season at home. They are now 0-2 at home in the playoffs. It is the NHL playoffs. Anything can happen and it will.

Orthodox Easter is Celebrated Today

Happy Easter my fellow Greeks and Happy Easter Alex Ovechkin and family too.

For many people, today is the true and right date for the celebration of Easter. We follow a bit different schedule based on our beliefs and the following of Old Testament Jewish Rabbis’ scheduling based on Passover. Today we celebrate and eat lamb and break colored eggs.

All drama is based on the Three Great Acts of the Greek Orthodox Drama: Creation, Death and Resurrection.

State Of Play?

No, it is NOT what you are thinking.

To take my mind off of things, my family and I went to the movies to see State of Play.

I give it a very positive rating. The cast was one of the best I have seen in a film in a long while. The acting was terrific and it is always a treat to see so many local sites highlighted in a DC based story. Production value in the film was top notch and I enjoyed the story even if it was another “Politicians are bad - business people are bad - news journalists are good” themed screenplay.
