We have never seen this kind of coverage in the Washington Post paper and online. This package of information is the most complete I have ever experienced for a playoff series. We appreciate your investment of time, people resources, ink and pixels in covering our team. Click here to see all of the coverage.
Caps fans - with the Washington Post, Washington Times, Washington Examiner, Baltimore Sun and Comcast – our local TV affiliates and the blogosphere are all humming. There is no shortage of information about the Capitals and this series. Well done all. We appreciate it very much as do our fans.
This high level of interest is another great sign for the team, the community and the fan base. I hope we can live up to the hype.
I am so relieved that this day has arrived. The waiting to play a playoff game is always the hardest part.
We can now see where we are in our development as a team and as a franchise starting tonight, Game 1, at Verizon Center. The puck drops at 7:06 pm.
My bet is that this series will be a tough one with lots of ups and downs. It will be a long one too and it will exhaust us all emotionally and physically.
So I met the President today after his speech at Georgetown University. He spoke about our economy and about his plans for a new mission and recovery and turnaround. He was eloquent, charismatic and on top of his game. He spoke about education, health care, green tech and Wall Street and Main Street. The speech was really meaty as well as inspirational.
He was introduced to me and my wife. We shook hands and all I could say was, “Mr. President - we would love to host you at a playoff game this week. The Caps play on Wednesday and Saturday at Verizon Center.”
The build-up to our first playoff game Wednesday night against the New York Rangers has been fairly muted and low key. Click here for a typical analysis of our pending series.
There is a mutual respect between organizations and players.
No one knows what to expect. We are a great unknown.
The mainstream media is usually late to the party.
They are NOT a good indicator of what is happening in real time or what may happen in the future. They are a good indicator of what has happened. Many times, it is smart to bet against the mindset of the mainstream media.
Our President will be making a major speech on the economy on Tuesday morning and has chosen Gaston Hall at Georgetown University to deliver it.
As a member of the board of directors of the University, I have been invited to attend the speech and meet the President which will be a true honor.
I will be reporting on the speech on my blog; on Facebook; and on Twitter too. Stay tuned.
I have made a small angel investment in a new startup called Triporati. Click here to check it out as it is newly launched in beta phase.
Triporati was founded a by a close friend, Jim Hornthal. Jim was previously the founder of Preview Travel, a company I invested in and AOL invested in and one that went public and was eventually acquired by Travelocity. Triporati is a more personalized travel planning service and one that I think will be of great benefit to consumers, families and to the travel industry. Let me know what you think of the service. Thanks.
I am a child of the Sixties and remember well the aura on colleges throughout America. It was all sex, drugs, rock n roll and protests!
Here is a great film on SnagFilms that explores the student revolutions on campuses all over America. Hey kids - your dads were cooler than you.
Bright College Years is a terrific study of what it was like being a student in college during the Sixties. It is very well done and we go deep into the long tail to uncover this one. The Facebook generation will enjoy this film.
OK. It is time to put the past behind us; forget the regular season; and now get focused on the task ahead. All the points we garnered; all the wins we gained; and all the great plays and personal stats - they are done and forgotten. Don’t even think about them anymore since they don’t matter. We are all at 0-0 right now in the second season.
Welcome to the NHL playoffs. We play the New York Rangers and this will be a tough match-up.
