As I noted, Twitter is a great product but a derivative of the original AIM status update environment.
And 6 years ago, we launched AIM Fight. Click here to play.
And now here is an AIM Fight rip-off for Twitter. Click here. See any resemblance?
Everything old is new again.
But I don’t want to hear about how cool and innovative this stuff is. As a grizzled old media vet said to me, ”Same crap - different bag.”
i had a little to do with aim fight and everything to do with the comparative polling tools that led to it years prior. so as maker of twitchamp i’m sort of being derivative of myself, and pals at aol.
it was just for fun and thanks for noticing.
another i replicated from myself is here (http://bit.ly/Fl6rV), but like many little projects we quickly move on, don’t we.
as for twitter, i see it also derivative of what would have been “broadcast im” at aol, had i been successful getting product execs in the ’90s to approve it. FAIL. and also derivative of upoc.com – a great little turn of the century wireless sms community.
but back to the point: yes, i completely agree sooo much is derivative of aol accomplishments.
Sorry Ted, you’re wrong again
. I don’t seem to recall AOL having a “Fail Whale”. (ugh!)
What’s really sad is that Twitter has gotten away with putting a cute face on lousy availability, and people just accept it!
Ted – being in the ad industry, I hear this all the time. My first reaction was the same as yours. Twitter is AIM. But, I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?!
Ted, your comment gave me smile, because you are spot on, as always!
