Credit Where Credit is Due

Good for George McPhee. This is a very nice article on George and his work for us regarding the rebuild and the make-up of this team. Click here for details.

George also hired our coach which he deserves a lot of credit for as well.

We have been through a lot together. I am proud to work with George and his staff.

  1. note to pensfan. as a nova resident, you are not prohibited from buying caps tickets. ticketmaster has zip code restrictions which prevent out of town (scalpers) from buying tickets. they do this for concerts, etc. even the pens have done it. you are also free to use ebay, stubhub, etc to buy tickets. i welcome all the pens fans to the arena, most of whom are good solid hockey fans, and local residents. it does add atmosphere so long as it is all taken in good fun (goes for both sides). good luck to you and the pens…next year!

  2. Congratulations. I’m watching the games via ESPN360.com because I live near Cannes, France. I sure wish I was there to ‘feel’ the excitment, but with all the websites/blogs/etc. following the series so closely I can keep up like I have done all year. My kids and I are wearing Red all over the Cote d’Azur. Good luck.

  3. Mr. Leonsis…..when they showed you on the jumbo-tron today, I almost had a tear in my eye. I am so very happy for you “hanging in” and taking the appropriate time and funding to build this team.

I wanted to ask a question. I have read in printed media that Jose Theodore has a guaranteed contract next year for $4.5 million. Is that true? Can he be traded without that contract? For your sake, I hope so. Does his contract follow him or is it just the Cap’s liability?

I have a $50 bet on this question with my smart-ass older brother, who is a tax lawyer (one strike) and a former season ticket holder in the 70′s. I’ve seen about ten games this year and I am lovin’ it. I was a gaolie, through college. Now, my knees hurt.

I think it would help if you clear up all this (assumed) mis-information about Theodore’s contarct. We goalies would certainly appreciate it.

Oh, I also sing Barbershop with Bill Colosimo. We would love to do the anthem sometime….four part harmony.

    Peace.

  4. What are the chances that you may lose one of that staff to one of the vacant General Manager positions, perhaps Brian MacLellan to the Minnesota Wild especially with his Minnesota connections?

  5. Mr. Leonsis,

    I am a Penguins fan.

I want to start off by saying that you are a great owner, and there are many sports teams in the country that would be lucky to have you own the team.

The Capitals are an excellent team, and this is going to be a great series. As a Northern VA dweller, I wish the Caps best of luck in this series.

I find the great lengths that you go to in order to prevent Penguins fans from buying tickets to a playoff game ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. The Caps are good now. There is going to be plenty of Red. Who else in the NHL tries so hard to prevent opposing fans from attending? The Penguins don’t even do that with Philadelphia, our most hated rival. You are taking away one of the most fun/interesting dynamics of the fan experience: the heckling of the other team’s fans. I love wearing my Pens jersey to a Caps game and getting heckled, as I’m sure they love doing the heckling. It’s all in fun. A playoff atmosphere is better when you have that dynamic, and I think many fans on here would agree.

As I said earlier, you are an excellent owner, and the Caps success is good for the NHL. Unfortunately, you come off as a jealous 8 year-old child in this situation. It’s like you don’t want to invite a certain group of kids to your birthday party, because they are popular and may get more attention than the b-day boy. Grow up, Mr. Leonsis.
