RIP Jack

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Jack Kemp was a great man. He was a mentor to many of my friends. He was a friend to me and my family. He was a legend and a man’s man. He will be terribly missed.

Jack was scheduled to attend Game 7 of the first round of the Caps playoff series. He loved competitive sports and we all so looked forward to seeing him. He canceled out of attending that game at the last moment and just yesterday, Raul Fernandez and I were talking about him and how we needed to go see him ASAP and reminisce. So many of my friends are deeply connected to Jack and this will be a severe blow to them. Jack was bigger than life.

Jack was a role model; a great athlete; a professional football player; an organizer; an economist; a politician who served nobly; and a businessman. I couldn’t name a single person who knew Jack who could say a single bad thing about him. He was one of a kind.

Jack will be missed terribly by his family; his business associates; his friends; and the community at large. He was such a fun guy to be around and his passing is just a terrible reminder that life is precious. Seize every moment. RIP Jack Kemp.

There is Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself

Thanks for a great afternoon at Verizon Center. I thought our fans were outstanding. The building was loud, inhospitable and rocking. There were very few opposing team fans in the building so your loyalty and our programs to limit out of town fans surely worked. For all of those folks who were concerned about Pens fans coming into our building, I think you can relax a little bit in that it is easier to come to a Saturday afternoon game than a Monday night game. We have sold out to mostly season ticket holders and the big benefit of season ticket ownership is access to playoff tickets. We have loyal and great fans that don’t want to sell their tickets on the secondary market so thank you for that. It is most appreciated.
