Jack Kemp was a great man. He was a mentor to many of my friends. He was a friend to me and my family. He was a legend and a man’s man. He will be terribly missed.
Jack was scheduled to attend Game 7 of the first round of the Caps playoff series. He loved competitive sports and we all so looked forward to seeing him. He canceled out of attending that game at the last moment and just yesterday, Raul Fernandez and I were talking about him and how we needed to go see him ASAP and reminisce. So many of my friends are deeply connected to Jack and this will be a severe blow to them. Jack was bigger than life.
Jack was a role model; a great athlete; a professional football player; an organizer; an economist; a politician who served nobly; and a businessman. I couldn’t name a single person who knew Jack who could say a single bad thing about him. He was one of a kind.
Jack will be missed terribly by his family; his business associates; his friends; and the community at large. He was such a fun guy to be around and his passing is just a terrible reminder that life is precious. Seize every moment. RIP Jack Kemp.
I met him once, briefly. I was (am) a nobody; I had nothing to offer him and there was nothing in it for him to take a minute to speak with me, yet he was gracious and funny, he even made a little joke at his own expense, and I remember thinking ‘what a nice guy.’ Glad you got to know him like you did. Even more glad you noted how he comported himself. Thanks for this.
He was great a man and he will be missed. I am happy to hear that he was a friend of yours and your family. We could use more Jack Kemp’s in this country. Thanks for the nice post.
This is a huge loss. Jack was such a great person… so full of life and vigor. Lots of fond memories for many of us who had the opportunity to work with him at Quack.com back in 2000 and afterwards. He treated people equally with kindness. He had a magical way of making the most out of the toughest challenges and making the good outcomes even better. I hope a little bit of Jack rubbed off on us… and will live on in his memory.
Well said.
