“If You Don’t Like Change…”

“You are going to like irrelevancy even less.”

That is the name of a chapter in a great, soon to be published tome by Bob Garfield. His book and living Wiki will soon be made available to the public and it is called The Chaos Scenario. This work will be considered very important by consumers of media and by those of us in the business. The book explores the issues that media companies face today and how social and personalized media are changing the landscape and enabling consumers to take control of their information consumption.

Bob is a long time media observer and columnist. He gets the new media. He lives in it and he asked me to critique his manuscript. It is very well written and filled with great anecdotes, stories and insight into what the strange brew of new media consists of  today and will look like in the near future. I believe he has developed a hit and this project will be much discussed over the coming years. Keep your eyes and ears open for when it comes out.

  1. Ted,
Well, aren’t you the nicest guy EVER! Thank you very much for your kind words.

Finally, after 4+ years, finished the book yesterday. It will be available via Kindle by late June and in hard form mid summer. (check out TheChaosScenario.net) There’s a nice section in the final draft you haven’t seen; it’s about SnagFilms and some guy with a hockey team.

By the way, Allie was thrilled to meet you. This morning she arrived in Vancouver to work on the next two pictures in the “Twilight” series, so she’s got work in a hockey town. Double the pleasure, double the fun.

    Once again, many thanks.
    Bob

  2. I like the idea of having control over my media consumption but it would be great if there were mechanisms to filter objectivity and point of view. Although I have only looked for 10 years, I have yet to find a US media source that informs me like the Globe and Mail used to.

  3. Sounds very interesting…..I went looking for it on Amazon to pre-order and could not find it. Thanks for the heads up.

  4. This sounds like a must read. Please keep us posted as to it’s publish date.

    Thanks and Go Caps!

  5. Sounds like an interesting read – anyone have an idea if it will be available on Kindle? I don’t see a preorder on Amazon.
