Which one was worse, Wanda Sykes or David Feherty?

Which quote will generate the most outrage in the media?

Is either of them funny?

You decide. What do you think?

Here is Wanda. Wanda once raked several of us at AOL and Time Warner over the coals. Click here for details on David.

And you thought the Caps vs. Penguins series had generated some doozies, huh? Check these out.

  1. Both were dumb things to say. But I think it’s a little worse to suggest that US soldiers would voluntarily shoot any US civilian, regardless of their political views. Is he implying that our military is made up of a bunch of idealistic sociopaths?…If I were in an elevator with David Feherty, I’d break his orbital bone.

  2. I love Wanda Sykes. I think she did a great job.
Republicans are upset that she said she hopes Limbaugh’s kidney fails. That was merely a response to Limbaugh’s saying that he hopes Obama fails.

I was not a fan of George W. Bush. The man is an idiot, but I did not want him to fail because it caused the country to go down in so many ways.

  3. Wanda was wrong and so was Feherty.

the worst part is that when the chips are down BO Laughed at the deplorable jokes that Wanda told, and that just proves he has a poor ability to judge character.

as for Feherty if he thought that it was right to make a joke like that he was incredibly wrong. Nancy P is Queen B****.

also politics sucks anyways lets just focus on the things that make us happy.

Like Ted Leonsis, he brought us the Best Hockey team in the world. Thank you Uncle Teddy. for my birthday I would like to have the cup please. BTW my Birthday is July 26th.

    LETS GO CAPS

  4. I watched her “performance” on YouTube, expecting to hate it thoroughly. But I thought she did okay overall. Not the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, but not the embarrassment that Don Imus was a few years ago either.

Her Limbaugh stuff was definitely over the line, though. I can recall a more civilized time in our history when she would not have said those things, and if she had would not have gotten even the small bit of nervous laughter she did get. I long for those gentler times.

David Feherty’s comments I actually have less of a problem with, mostly because they were uttered in a magazine article, rather than on-air, where he should be more careful with his dark sense of humor. I got the context of his joke, though. Sykes’ comments also came with some context, in that it’s understood at these “roasts” that people will say mean things and everyone there should expect to be offended by something.

That’s I guess what I long for: a dinner like this where the hired entertainment can be funny without being coarse and resorting to bathroom humor. In today’s culture, I guess I’m asking for too much.

  5. Yes, Wanda’s joke was funny. Mean spirited and politically incorrect but funny none the less. I didn’t laugh when I heard what David said.

I don’t particularly care for Limbaugh but think he has a right to his opinions without anyone wishing him death. I wouldn’t mind if his mouth was wired shut but wishing someone death for their opinions or because they see the world differently is very danagerous and extremely shallow.

  6. I am sick of everyone getting offended all the time, we’re a nation of crybabies. Let her say what she wants. Let Obama laugh at it. Whatever!

By the way, if you think a president has bad ideas and you want him to fail, doesn’t that mean you believe the country is BETTER OFF if he fails? Didn’t liberals want Bush to fail for 8 years? Why is it wrong now? (well we know the answer to this)

  7. I think that comics, good ones, are usually observers of human behavior/society and usually utilize their craft to reflect the state we’re in in a fashion that makes us laugh AND think. I’m thinking of great comics like Bruce, Carlin, and Pryor.

But whether the two speakers were funny or crossed the line, well….this is a reflection of our divided society. Certainly, Wanda used the platform she had to take pot shots at Rush due to some resentment at the things Rush has said that has offended others. And on the other spectrum, David voiced the resentment and disdain from certain segments about Pelosi and Reid.

There no longer seems to be a middle ground anymore and pragmatism and moderate behavior has lost out to ideology, dogma and extremism. There used to at least be an air of collegiality, gentility, in US politics. Not’s it’s all strident partisan attacks, angry voices. Everything has to be black and white, I’m right and you’re wrong, did too-did not, etc….It’s no wonder people hate DC and politics but the electorate also has to recognize how they are manipulated by their respective parties too and recognize how they also contribute to the great divide we have.

So, were they funny? Yes, if you think along ideological/party lines or whichever way you fall on the political spectrum. No, if you can remove yourself from the fray and see that these are view points from opposite ends of the spectrum that is reflective of today’s divided society. Or if you feel that there are times and places to be edgy and this wasn’t one of them. Left and right are arguing about stupid stuff, too caught up in ideology, while Rome is burning.

Thank God the Caps are a great diversion from real life. C’mon Caps, let’s get this one back to DC!!!

  8. Hard to compare. I’d never heard of David Feherty before and his comments appeared in some regional magazine nobody cares about or reads. Wanda’s comments were at a high profile event, with the President sitting a few feet away. Somehow Feherty will generate more “outrage” though because Rush Limbaugh has been fair game ever since Al Franken called him a “big, fat idiot”.

  9. Somebody has to call out Rush Limbaugh – besides Keith Olbermann – even if in humor.

  10. The answer is simple:

    1. When it’s a democrat mocking a republican, it’s humor/satire.

    2. When it’s a republican mocking a democrat, it’s treason or fire-able offense.

  11. As we say in Section 108 after a visitor’s goal is announced — “Who Cares?” It’s just words, folks.
