I voted. He should definitely get to keep his column. I really got into hockey when the Caps made their Cup run in '98. It all started if I remember correctly -- with a triple overtime win over the B's in a first round game. Been hooked ever since. To me, no sport is better live. And in HD, no sport is better. Period.

P.S. -- Ted, great season. Thank you. As I believe the Brooklyn Dodgers used to say...Wait til next year!

Touching the cup without winning it is blasphemous unless you're it's handler. If he were an "educated" hockey fan he would know this.

I thought you'd appreciate this comment I posted to On Frozen Blog. Being a hockey town means more than jumping on a bandwagon when the home team is doing well. We deserve better:

The Washington Post improved its coverage of the Caps this year, but the status quo of poor hockey coverage has returned. Sunday's paper had NO hockey, despite the fact the conference finals were opening that night. There was room for the NBA, MLB, soccer, horse racing, swimming, lacrosse, and a variety of college and high school sports -- but once the home team has been eliminated, apparently that sport played on ice no longer exists. Today's paper has just 10 paragraphs on the opening Detroit-Chicago game and one paragraph (about one player) on the pending Pens-Cans series. Maybe Washington is becoming a hockey town, but it's in spite of the town's leading newspaper. Long live the blogs.

Ted,

Sorry to rain on your already soaked parade, but bragging about double digit growth to your fan base is a complete misrepresentation. Nearly every team in the NHL is experiencing growth, with the exception of Phoenix and a couple others, and the team that knocked your Caps out of the playoffs is experiencing triple digit growth. All this growth with a former NHL player as an owner, and the Caps can't achieve the same growth with such an elite businessman such as yourself. What a shame.

Of course I voted for Joel to keep writing but couldn't help but notice that Time, much like Congress, gives Washington, DC no representation, in that you can't see how residents of the District voted for or against Joel in the poll results.
